To each their own I guess. I used dawn with no ill effects. After replacing the cups and doing my flush treatment, adding coolant, etc, the company ran those particular trucks another 750,000 miles or so. No comebacks from my method meant that I kept the status quo and went with Dawn. I suppose I could understand using Cascade or some such. Scrubs grease off dishes also.

Dawn IS what you want to use.

Dawn works great. Flush with straight water a few times. Before filling with a good antifreeze solution. If you have really hard water buy bottled water or Distilled water, your cooling system will thank you!!
Also for cleaning parts before reassembly, Tide works awsome!

So what is the ratio of Dawn to water for this?

I don't have a specific ratio, all by feel, the learning curve isn't to bad and very forgiving with Dawn!! just a good squeeze, maybe a few healthy tablespoons.
Think of making like 5 sinks of dishwater.
    or
like the ratio you would use to wash the truck, except your washing the inside!!!!
If you don't use enough it'll still have some scuzz, do it again.
If you go a little over board you'll need to run the rinse cycle a few extra times!!!
    No biggee either way.

Big Don and glenn71 Thank this.

It's fine on the radiator. Dawn anyhow. I used roughly 1/2 to 1 cup per time I did this. Filled the system with H2O and added Dawn last. capped it and ran it.

    glenn71 Thanks this.

Allright then, I'm just gonna run her good and hard tomorrow and when I get back I'll give her another dose and do it again. Soon as I get that done, I'm gonna send her in for an early PM so she can get some fresh oil and filters too. Hopefully that will be the end of this.

Thanks for all the info. I really appreciate it.

    drdesl Thanks this.

So, this is nothing new. I wonder why I never heard of it before? I guess this would never come up with a gasoline motor.
