I have seen a piece chip off a disc and lodge between plates causing the clutch to not release.

Factory clutch, same as what was in there. Maybe 300,000 miles on it and no problems.

They don't make them like they used to.....

I've heard of failures at 300-400k

One thing , if you have to replace the clutch and you have a 1850 up rate to a 2050.

I've seen a 2250 on Eatons website..... Haven't had time to research it yet tho.

I was wrong. I just checked. The clutch is around 8 years old. Not sure how many miles on it. Maybe 6 or 7 hundred? I'm half way home getting ready to head out around midnight for the last leg.

As far as upgrading the clutch I won't have much choice. My mechanic is an old timer and does what he wants to do except for that relay valve. He's pizzed at you for that!

He's the type that if it can be fixed, he'll fix it. Like my belt tensioner. Instead of a new one he went to industrial supply and bought a new bearing and pressed it in for $50. My clutch for the fan. Bought a new part and fixed that. He just replaced my AC compressor. He spent 2 hours later pulling it apart just to see how it failed. I was surprised to see it had a crank shaft, 2 rods and 2 pistons!!! The compressor was real cheap or he would have honed the cylinders and put 10 over rings in. He LOVES fixing broken stuff.

If its a spring you can also pull it out of there and get some extra life out of it. But who knows when it will happen again. Usually you'll find parts in the bottom of the bellhousing. It's not hard to diagnose.

Funny. I complained once to my mechanic he forgot to put the inspection plate back on. He said that's for the broken parts to fall out.

Well, made it home without a clutch. 600 miles. Not too bad. Only had to stop at the toll booths with a gate. I took 2 breaks but pulled over on the highway on the down hill so I rolled to get going then slipped into gear. Got into my town around 7:30 and hit the 3 lights with green.

I don't know how to word it but starting off in 1st it's like that gear turns faster then the starter and holds the truck back. It likes either 2nd or 3rd.

My mechanic wanted me to pull into my spot which is hard because I have to back up, pull forward and repeat like 3 time with maybe 1 foot on each side. And wouldn't you know it. My clutch was working. It was catching really low on the pedal and when I finally pulled in it didn't work at all anymore.

That's what my mechanic is thinking. It's going to be a new clutch no matter what the problem is. No matter what's wrong the transmission has to come out. I would be a huge waste of time and money to not replace it.
