I can only pack a duffel bag. I'm focusing more on my outerwear, footwear, and my base layer than "clothes." Does this sound like the right approach?
1. I'm doing western 11, so there are some states already experiencing some low temps below freezing. I'm going to want to pack my snow ski bibs, right?? I figure I might be crawling around or at least kneeing down on snowy ground at some point, but they are puffier and taking up more room than just a waterproof overlayer to go over jeans.
2. Gore tex rain jacket with hood.
3. waterproof hiking boots (also bringing sneakers)
4. Thin polyester base layers, a couple pairs, top and bottom.
5. wool socks (I don't wear socks with my sneakers, so these are for the boots)
6. Gloves. Maybe I'm overthinking this: leather work gloves, soft knit stretchy gloves, plus warm thinsulate ski-type gloves.
7. Two knit hats, one with ear flaps / one without, and a big knit scarf
8. A couple pairs of jeans & a pair of sweatpants (more jeans?)
9. Four or five loose t-shirts
10. Almost forgot about my hooded down jacket, for the layer under the rain jacket if needed. Packs small. I'm allergic to down so will have to get something else eventually.
I'm wondering if I need T-shirts at all for November. Maybe I should just take a light polyester zip jacket for over the base layer and let that do the job, since it won't be next to my skin anyway?
In case you couldn't tell, I have a hiking background, not a trucking background. I'd love some feedback on what I'm leaving out that I'd probably want to take, clothing wise anyhow. I'd appreciate it.

A good parka (weatherproof)
A good ski hat (I use a full face mask)
Warm pants (bluejeans for me).
Glove Liners (Wool)
Waterproof boots (not water resistant).
Thermal underwear if you are thin skinned.
Warm Socks.
Don't overthink it, or you'll pack a bunch of junk you end up hating lugging around.
I also keep a pair of gardening knee pads in my sidebox, they are handy for pretrips.CaliforniaJellyroll Thanks this. -
Sorry, I think I put this in the wrong forum area. This site is so huge.
I think I'm gonna need that face mask, and knee pads too. One thing I don't have is a parka, but I'm hoping to do without by using the thin down jacket layer + Marmot rain jacket. -
Must be a woman ha. That's way too much stuff! Good luck and safe travels
drdesl, TripleSix, Straight Stacks and 2 others Thank this. -
That was my first thought too.

If you're from Northern California you'll probably need less warm clothes and if you're from Southern California you'll probably need more warm clothes.
CaliforniaJellyroll and Bob Dobalina Thank this. -
You're going to be sharing a very small space with another human. Do your trainer a favor and wear socks with your sneakers.
Sneakerfix, TBonze, SOG and 3 others Thank this. -
Am I being cynical for thinking this was a troll thread?!

Ha ha, #### all y'all. I am a woman, yeah. I'm putting it all in one medium sized duffle bag, too. Instead of saying "too much stuff," hows about you tell me what the extraneous items are. Thanks a ton.
I'm not taking a hair dryer, I'm not taking socks for my shoes, I'm not taking hair products besides shampoo, not taking more than 2 pairs of jeans, and since I have never trucked or ridden along or visited northern states in the winter, I don't know how severe it can get. I do get cold, so I'm going to take things to keep me warm. I'm from somewhere it rarely freezes at night, as in, "Oh no! Must go out and cover the rose bushes! It's a cold snap tonight!" So it's not too much stuff for me, if I can get it in one duffel bag. I wonder how many men will show up at training with twice as much stuff as me? As much as you all complain about trainers on here, I'm a lot more worried about how I'm going to survive the trainer for a month.Last edited: Oct 31, 2015
TBonze Thanks this. -
Thank you to those who actually made suggestions, but I won't be checking back here. Since it's in the wrong place anyway, maybe an admin can delete it.
