Matt, not to get in your business, but this will answer any and all your questions. Dont go to stevens. Go to prime. Theres a driver that started with stevens and became a trainer, and was with them a few years and left. His name is Mark Staite
Matt, lookup Mark Staite on youtube. The very first video you need to watch is titled,"Stevens or Prime?" Watch that video first, then watch the rest of them in any order and I guarantee you that Mark Staite will answer any and all your questions and then some. Myself, as a seasoned driver, back in '96, Stevens flew me up there for orientation. After wasting 2days of my life with those trailer trash crooks, I saw the bs and caught acab back to the airport. I emailed steven aaron and he called me. I told him he has a nice terminal, equipment and potential to be a top carrier that would retain seasoned drivers if he'd clean house and get rid of all the redneck/whitetrash that had no pr or experience communicating with drivers. I told him i knew that most of them have job security because they took the fall for steven and did federal time for tax fraud, drug trafficking, insider trading and something with the postal inspectors. He got pissed! He wanted to know how i knew! Thats why they have revolving doors.

Mark Stait is a class A Jack Donkey.... Stevens was the place to be when he was there, and now Prime is the place to be now that he is there. Yes I know him personally.

As far as the revolving door, that is by design. They make a significant portion of their income from training new drivers. They don't want many hanging around after a year or two because they need the truck for a new driver.

Stevens Physical is a standard DOT Physical, the BP requirement was 140/89, if I recall.

As with most things from Truck Drivers, you have to chalk about 70% of what you hear up to BS. Most of the people commenting about companies have never worked there, they are passing along hearsay and he said/she said stories.

When I was at Stevens the color vision test was 4 colored squares on a piece of cardboard held up by nurse. I am color blind and had no problems with it. Stay away from Crete though if your colorblind. You won't even get past the first day orientation. Or full physical even.

Those Stevens v Prime Youtube videos refer to leasing, unless he has others up regarding the comparison for company drivers I have missed.

In his latest videos, he is not all that happy with Prime either.

I know two people that went to Stevens within the last 12 months and they told me they qualify for food stamps. Other drivers warned them about the small paychecks, but those fancy trucks blinded them. They also told me the get stuck in the Northeast and at meat packing plants.

Earl Henderson Trucking pays .38 cpm
Waggoners Trucking Co. pays .50 cpm
Don Hummer Trucking pays .52 cpm which includes bonus.

How small is small?. I have Stevens short-listed in case my other choices don't work out. Fortunately I don't need a big paycheck, not for the first year anyway, but I don't want to have to resort to eating mayonnaise sandwiches either.

I didn't ask, but both said they get stuck in the Northeast on short runs and spend many hours waiting at meat packing plants such as over 24 hours. What other companies are on your short list? Any of the 3 on the list above?

I have Henderson as a first choice. I am also interested in Prime, Crete/Shaffer and some of the other megas that I probably shouldn't name.

I have heard of Waggoners, but not Don Hummer. I will give them a look and see if they would be any good for me as far as hiring area etc.

    Thanks
