Did your area manager really ask you to write this for the Company news letter?
I hope this will clarify the law to your fellow drivers, maybe they have been confused.

Curious as to why a 4.0 Gpa student is driving a truck? Just trying to reconcile the facts you have stated in your post.

While I agree that you can't use drugs and be in transportation, your comment aroused a little fire in me.

Do you feel the same way about people who have "illegal Bibles" in Saudi Arabia? Or Blue laws here in the US- Do you think you should be arrested and fined for buying a shirt in certain New Jersey counties on a Sunday?

If you believe that people are born with inalienable rights, then you must also agree that 'laws' that dictate private behavior, by their very nature, interfere with those freedoms.

So the real question would be, what right does the government or law maker have to enact and enforce laws that infringe on personal choice?

You really have to look deep within yourself to decide if you really support freedom or not. Enforcing your own version of morality on other people is not freedom.

Because I want to. I tried a semester of college, I hated it, all the professors pushed left wing agenda and it wasn't for me. I went to trade school. I was a mechanic for 7 years, got sick of it. Now I drive a truck, I enjoy it, and make more money then some of my friends with college degrees. What don't you get?

Just in case my point is missed - I agree with this about the post as well. Drugs cannot have a place in transportation. I don't know if I would have turned them in, but I do think it is easily argued that the OP did the right thing in this situation. Now if it was your single neighbor smoking pot in his garage, that becomes a different scenario entirely.

Years ago when I ran Foodservice, I had a friend jump about and we ran team. We would stay in a motel overnight. The motel had a bar in it. We would go in and grab dinner, have a couple beers and call it a night. Well, he had a problem. He started closing the bar down. You're not going to close a bar down at 3am and be ready to rumble at 7. I'd cover for him, "Stay in the truck. I will unload the truck." Yeah, I was young and stupid once too. But one day, he got out of the truck and showed his arse to a customer, and a manager came up to me and asked me if he was drunk.

I had to report him. This is business.

If this driver was getting so careless to forget his drugs, he was about to destruct. It was a good call on Patriots part.

I cant agree with that type of mentality. Because it may not have yet effected you.. what if the driver hit and injured or killed someone you care about? Does it effect you then? How can you not see the potential ramifications of someone driving under the influence?

If someone didnt have enough brain cells to remove their stash so it doesnt create a situation with someone else the then they get what they get. I call on drivers and people that look like they are driving intoxicated all the time. I can only hope and pray they were caught before hurting or killing someone.

Rat, snitch, narc... what ever.. act stupid around me, I wont be nice about it.
