That very expensive corn destassler reminds me that a lot of us did things that these kids today would NEVER think about doing. Yet we did it and it made us better people for it. I can't imagine the older guys saying, "We can either get the high school kids to detassle the corn or we can spend a quarter million dollars for the equipment to do it." It was just expected that the job needed done and we did it.

The funny thing is, we never thought there was anything wrong with hard work. Remember your high school days? When you either had after school sports or an after school job? (Or both!) Remember when something broke down and everybody, even if they worked for a different outfit, would jump in and get things going again?

Remember carrying a can of dimes with you, because a pay phone (if you could find one) was the only way to contact your company? And they couldn't help anyway from that far away.
Remember hiding cash in the truck, because if you had a blowout or a dead battery it was up to you to get it replaced and finish the job?

No cell phones, no qualcomms, no GPS.

But we got the job done, didn't we?
