How about I-59 between Chatanooga and Birmingham? Been a long time since I delivered in the Bronx, Queens area of Ney York, some of them
Main roads were rough 20+ years ago. Few of them would make the truck toss Ya up, smack your butt twice before Ya came back down. I think back sometimes about the 77 Freightliner hood with the KT450 and twin straights, pulling across 40/48 ( now I-68 ) on my way to Mass. The O'l 84 Autocar pulling oversize to Gillete, WY. They were Cadillacs at that time.
What happened to old school trucking?

You're not alone. I like to think one didn't necessarily have to live during that time to appreciate it's values.Blackshack46, Greatest.Driver.On.Earth! and johndeere4020 Thank this.

I'm 40 and have been at it for 15 years. I guess I got in under the wire.

I broke down with a blown turbo on US-58 in Boydton VA once about 12 years ago hauling an excavator back from the factory in NC. In the roughly 2 hrs I sat there about 5 or 6 dump truckers stopped to ask if I needed help. Quite a few Mecklenburg county Sheriffs' deputies came by too.Greatest.Driver.On.Earth! Thanks this. -
Yeah,.. I pretty much forgot they rerouted all that to create 68. Used to be a place called Jug Bridge SeaFood in owned by Paul Rosencrantz. He was like a foster dad to me. His wife and adopted son were always kind to me.

Almost lost it at the State line there around 1987. For some reason the road was slick. Heard a few weeks later a guy had lost his oil filter and they had not cleaned up the oil. Was not running more then 55 MPH, but had just started raining and man it was like ice. Plus there was a bad rough spot about the same time.
Sad part is lots of those roads were in sad shape back then. But with the way there letting our roads to go POT these days. I think there going to be so bad in 5 years you will have to run in the grass to keep any parts on the trucks.
Back last winter was going down 59 in LA man I thought it was bad then headed west on I-10 and my cup jumped out of the heated and cooled drink holder. Now it has to be bad for one to jump out of that sucker.

These states are to busy building walking trails and parks that only a handful of people use instead of fixing worn out roads.

Hey man that behavior and attitude really helped me out starting out, and I know other guys that received the same treatment. You older and more experienced guys shared wisdom and experience with us and that led to us surviving starting out. I happen to know several other flatbedders that I went to school with, they are also passing out assistance when it's needed. Because of people like you people like me were successful at this. We are passing it on.Greatest.Driver.On.Earth!, rank and TripleSix Thank this.

You also get the COMPLETE OPPOSITE at times when you offer help / advice , recently offered some assistance only to get told not to bother her and that we all think we know everything.
Funny 15 miles down the highway her TARP was off the load and laying in the ditch , she was pulled over a mile further looking kind of befuddled talking to a state trooper.Greatest.Driver.On.Earth!, rogueunh, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this. -
That's a free tarp man. The kids love em for slip and slides. Did you go and collect your free bounty? This is how I got my smoke tarp.lots of character and Greatest.Driver.On.Earth! Thank this.

Not with Smokey there. But I would have had to slow down and toot my city horn at that legend in her own mind.Greatest.Driver.On.Earth!, FLATBED and Ruthless Thank this.
