I have to unload at my stops..

    Two pairs of gloves.

    One for unloading.
    One for truck duties.

Pack as much as you want..

But do it in several small bags.. Like back pack size.

Every thing you bring will be in the bed with you... It is easy to arrange a bunch of little bags as needed for comfort.... Than to have a big duffel or suit case taking up space.

Also don't forget about dirty clothes bag, and a bag for shower trips.

Pack a garbage bag in each bag... You can get stuck waiting in foul weather. You can bag your stuff... And make a parka if needed to stay dry.

This isn't true, At least not at swift. My mentor was dry van O/O for four weeks. When I upgraded in ocala, guess where they put me? Walmart dedicated reefer out of winter haven, absolutely no reefer experience. Given a crash course by dispatch and sent on my way. Frozen/dairy loads with three different compartments separated by "bulkheads".

Three weeks later they pulled me off and put me back on dry van OTR. Turns out I was "surge" for walmart.

Pulled dry van for ~ 6 months and just recently got put on dole dedicated.. (reefer side). Reefer isn't hard and you can learn enough to haul it reasonably in a week. If you're competant.

Every one needs drivers... If you can get the numbers to the right people... And a trainer willing to vouch for your ability..

You can do anything you want.

You better get along... You better ask a lot of questions... You better learn... You better have a good attitude.

And a little luck on your side...

In his year of driving, boyfriend was asked once if he had steeltoe shoes on at a receiver. He didn't. He lied and said yes. That was all.
