Pros and Cons of TEAMING, for Newbies

The pro about teaming is that you will get alot of miles. If you can get some one whom has turned some miles already will be a great help.

The con is you wont get much sleep. Wrong! Getting sleep is very easy with a truck that is moving. As to the issue of the other driver not being to your liking? The only time you have to deal directly with that other driver is on the 34. The rest of the time you can get on a 12 hour schedule. One hour to get on duty, learn what has transpired when you were asleep, pretrip, refuel and eat and do your business including showering. Then you are on your ten. At the end of your ten, you will park the truck some where that the team mate will have time to do what you did at the beginning. You will find this cycle very easy to do. If you dont like night driving you may need to compromise. My day started at 3am and ended at 3pm. Stick to your schedule.

 

We don't spend an hour switching drivers. Nor do I run my miles out every week. I haven't met a team on the road that has ran out their miles weekly to sit for a 34. Teams don't sit for a 34 anyway because they don't need to sit that long. Someone has been off duty for 12 hrs ... we sit for 24 or less when necessary.

And good luck downloading crap unless you pay for wifi while sitting at a fuel stop. Because we use verizon and gb are not cheap. But we get free dvds from our points on our fuel cards. No need to pay for extra gb or get crappy network coverage trying to get cheaper internet. And most wifi is crappy. Constantly prompting for reconnection on their website. Affirm user agreement.

I have my ipad, camera, laptop, t.v., and really don't have time for any of them.

I couldn't team with your wife, either. Seriously, I found I couldn't sleep for about 3 days, then I'd be so tired it didn't matter anymore. Except in Michigan. Road was too rough

 

LOL! I just think after a while any woman would get on your nerves in that small area. There is just no escape!

 

The pro.... maaaaaaaybe a couple hundred bucks more a week.

The cons....absolutely everything else. In spades.

The best advice I can give teams who plan on working for a mega is get on a dedicated account. When you go dedicated the work becomes easy because it becomes predictable. The customer we service has terminals all across the country and for example if I deliver in Sacramento then I have a pretty good idea where I'm going next. Things like this makes it easier for the team to do laundry, get groceries, shower, etc.

We love working for a mega carrier. Believe it or not, it's a pretty laid back atmosphere. We teamed at R&L Carriers and it was an eye opener. Many companies out there will make teams work hard instead of smart.
