I do a lot of commuting for work and was curious as to how you guys deal with the physical fatigue from driving all day. I typically drive about 10-12 hours straight, stopping twice for fuel and a couple times to answer natures call. Other than that I'm rolling. When I get home it takes about 3-5 hours for me to recover. If I were to describe it I would say it almost feels like you're vibrating. Any advice on how to limit/prevent this from happening?

Northern, I like to go for a nice walk after I shut down for my Obama break. The vibrations back off, I get some blood circulation in my backside and lower limbs, and enjoy the scenery. Oftentimes I find better parking solutions. If you're feeling tired or sleepy, bored or hypnotized, stop your rig, get out and do a few pushups, walk around, get some oxygen in your bloodstream. It makes a better day. I keep a 15lb weight in my cab, exercise my shoulders and arms 2 or 3 times a day. Anything you can do to keep your circulation up and add muscle work to your day will make a difference.

Driving modern trucks is much less fatiguing then driving a typical automobile. Plus, you acquire certain tolerances and expectations.

I work shift work up north but live out of province so I'm always on the road. With the cost of flying and the layovers, its a little cheaper and only about an hour longer to just drive there.

    truckon and Mountaintrucker4302 Thank this.

I agree with Starboyjim, i normally stop and do stretches or just take a power nap when feeling tired.

How about taking breaks more frequently?
Stop, get out of the vehicle, walk around a time or two, do some simple stretches, and then hop back in. Should be able to do that in less than 5 minutes.

I rarely stop or do much walking through out my trip so I might have to try that.

Newer trucks ride alot like cars, I can pull a 11 hour driving day strait (when we used to be able to) without stopping and felt fine and the end of the day.. Its when im down for a whole day or more its alot harder to get moving.
