A list that could be updated that listed all the companies that have installed driver facing cameras that is posted as a sticky would be a useful addition to TTR.

Drivers looking to change carriers would have one place to check and scratch that carrier off their consideration list.

Doesn't matter if you personally have an account...if your image is captured and uploaded, by anyone, then you become part of the data. ;)

That's why we are truck drivers and not brick and mortar store owners...don't accept that as norm as a young driver...fight to change this new trend...it's violating...

The cameras are rolling all the time but the only footage someone is actually viewing is the 10-15 seconds before and after a safety event. Things like hard brakes, roll stability, accidents, or if you have Bendix it will trigger if you follow too close for a specified time period. Otherwise all those hours of footage are stored for a short time period and deleted from a central database. I would be comfortable with one in my truck to save me from the he said she said BS.

Werner and Schneider already are going to driver facing cameras. As well as Prime Swift CR England CRST TMC TransAm Maverick Melton and MIllis to name a few.. They actually continually record on a small loop. They only store ( so they claim) during a violation of the parameters that each camera is set up with. The cameras are monitored by the service from the camera manufacturers not the carrier. However each carrier has the info sent to them for coaching and can log on remotely through a web based platform. They also have an app to dial in from an Ipad. They actually store 8 seconds before and 4 seconds after the event. Going over the speed limit is also considered a violation of some carriers parameters.... You will see more and more of the larger carriers going to them as it is driven by money.. Whether it is Insurance or Law Suits etc etc.. The biggest mistake is to believe that these cameras are being used to save the drivers butt... They are not although that does happen. They are for the carrier and to save there butts..

I work a local job and drive a day cab or box truck and go home at the end of my route. We got a memo the other day stating that the company will be implementing drivers cams (inward and outward) when the lease with Ryder is up on the trucks. We will be leasing from Penske and all those trucks are equipped with cams.

I'm really torn about this. I feel the same as others in this thread about invasion of privacy, babysitting, shifting of liability by lawyers, etc. I am not happy about this.

On the other hand, my company is great in every other respect. I get paid VERY well for what I do, I only work 9 hrs or less per shift and only 5 days per week. My company doesn't have a terminal where I live, so I run out of the local Ryder yard and have no interaction with anyone from the terminal ever. All the hiring was done by phone/email and I've only ever seen anyone that could be considered a boss one time, ever, in person. I say that to emphasize that I'm left very much alone to do my job.

I really like this job and if it wasn't for the impending camera issue, it would be perfect in every way. I know I won't find anything better in my area. I guess I'll just keep an open mind and see how it plays out. I know my company is not particularly concerned with watching my every move and I don't think that will change when the cams are installed.

As others have said, we are already constantly monitored by cameras in every other aspect of our lives. They are, quite literally, everywhere. On street corners, inside stores, out side stores, over head in satellites, in our phones and tablets. I know for a fact that cell phone providers listen in on conversations, even when the phone is not "in use", and sell that info to advertisers. There's been several occasions when the wife and I are talking to each other at the house, and next time I get online an add pops up relating to the conversation we just had. And don't even get me started on Facebook. Anyone who has an account with them is voluntarily selling their privacy to the highest bidder, with the profit going only to Facebook.

I know I'm ranting, but I guess I'm just gonna see what happens before I jump ship on an otherwise great job.

That was happening for decade , after , decade , after , decade....if a company wants a driver , a real , honest to goodness , professional , they'll pay for a driver.... using the money that they would waste on a stupid camera...I say this with almost 40 years of accident free driving....there are a few of that type out here....

    Says who? Them? LOL!

Soooooooooooooo, the Camera saved the drivers life huh?

It's really sad how many people have the horribly misguided naive "I'm not doing anything wrong" outlook on this, not seeing how much of a privacy violation it is. Get one thing through your head right now, FRONT facing camera's are (hopefully) there to help prove the companies (not yours) innocence IF that can be done in a crash. It helping you is simply a side effect. A DRIVER facing cam's ONLY purpose is to throw you under the bus.

    Can assume your a millennial?
