That is fair. I have not yet driven in autoshift, and I may be forced to do so in the future.
Admittedly, most of what I "know" is secondhand knowledge when it comes to trucks with these transmissions.
However, with many of the recent changes that Schneider has been making ( I don't complain about most of them because I don't have experience with them, and at the moment I do not deal with them. I'm not immune, I just don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to complaining.) they have been removing control from the hands of their drivers. I saw many complaints on the removal of manual mode, and to me it makes no sense to remove it simply speaking logically.
For the time being, I will keep my personal preference of driving with a stick and the clutch. But until I have actually driven both, I cannot with any accuracy say that one is better than the other.chopper103in, TruckDuo and HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Thank this. -
they remove the manual mode because drivers don't try to adapt and think they need to put in in manual to keep rpms up to climb a grade or to hold a gear going down
this ruins any fuel economy gain garnered from extra cost of the transmission
these DD15 matched with the autoshift and jake system is strong enough to bring my truck to an almost complete stop going down a couple of grades over by 'olhands house on 309 in Pa I have had to shut the jake off to get into a higher gear because it was over revving trying to slow down more
Any other argument other then I am old school and too set in my ways to change doesnt hold water anymore. And that is ok i have many value systems that are archaic by modern standards.
In the 70's truck drivers said power steering was going to ruin trucking that you wouldn't be able to feel the road
Of course everyone thats hates OnGuard
and dash cams is completely correct. I do too having never had them on my truck

.... Pete, you are sooooo lucky I saw this first, before the rest of the Elders did. This ain't gonna be thought of as just another one of your many Rumspringa activities. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumspringa ...
... But in my Magnanimous way, I could possibly shield you from this sacrilegious error in judgement. ..... But to make sure you learn a lesson, I'll be forced to charge you a ridiculous amount of simolians. It's for your own good, of course ! .... You are far beyond a mere Shunning with this, an almost certain Excommunication from the rest of the Amish, Non Automatic transmission Truck Drivers awaits you for sure ! ..... unless, of course, a very sizable amount inflates my bank account by close of business Friday.
