iowa smoking ban

It is only a stupid law depending how you look at it.

I have also had to share trucks with someone who has no idea where or how to use a shower. Not much hope there.

 

My wife must be a Democrat........she passed that farting law a couple of years back.

It don't seem right to block business and let the casinos slide.

i think this is total bull crap. im sorry but the last time i checked this country was known as the " Land of The Free ".....am i right? cause im sure i am.... whats next? no radios in the truck? no soda? no water? and im sorry to the guy that posted about being " allergic to cigs " but your the type of people that do this to us smokers in the own comfort of out trucks, cars, vans homes boats and where ever els we smoke. yes i agree with no smoking in restruants, but most drinkers are smokers, so you should be aloude to smoke at the bar. driving a truck can be frustrating enough, and i dont think the DOT in iowa is going to like all the trucks pulled over on the side of the highway so a driver can smoke a cigg.
also, what the hell is the differece between me driving my truck which is also my HOME, and the guy in his car driving through iowa, and the guy sitting in his livingroom in his HOUSE, smoking?
im going to find out what bad habit the non-smokers have, and i am going to insist that they pass a law on that.

 

If you look at my post, you will find I have no problem with someone smoking in their truck. My comment on the truck is that smokers need to be matched to smokers in the night and day operations. If you are the only driver of the truck, what difference does it make whether you smoke or not. It makes no sense to me as well.

Since you wish to insert the Land of the Free. Consider this.

You have the right to smoke anywhere you like. It makes you happy. However, I have the same right to not breathe the smoke filled air.

As far as my type of people. I am no different than you. I do not smoke. I rarely have a drink. This amounts to 1 in about 3 years. One of the reasons I do not go to bars is the smoke. I have had to not go with friends many times over the last 20 years.

What you do does not bother me as long as it does not affect me.

 

And there are those who are allergic to perfume worn by others, and certain materials cause allergic reactions for some.

How far do we, as a society, go to prevent the possibility that some one will have a reaction as a direct result of another's choices?

I say, give and take.
But that doesn't seem to be the case with these
one-size-fits-all laws.

I was a non-smoker for the first 35 years of my life. When they created NoN SmokinG sections in restaurants, I was fine with that, and so were most of my smoker friends.

But to outlaw smoking EVERYwhere, and NOT allow businesses to decide for themselves if they want to allow smoking, is just flat wrong, IMO.

Businesses are in business for several reasons, but profits rate up there pretty high on the list.

If enough customers DON'T like a business, for whatEVER reason --- don't go there.
They'll get the message.
Or go OUT of business.

Don't want to work in a smoking environment?
Don't apply there, and/or try to change the rules.

However, if they ARE providing what the customers want, and business is boomin' and nobody's complaining -- where's the beef? Last I checked, tobacco products ARE still legal to have --- as long as you don't use it, I reckon.

Another case of Big gumbint protecting us from ourselves?
If so, why not just outlaw tobacco all together? Tobacco BAD,........ right?

If y'all don't smoke in California --- you have no feelings for the children. Without smokers footing the bill for other's children's health care, they'd have none.
Who will they tax next?
They're already lookin' at beer harder.
Almost three-bucks MORE on one 6-pack.
And they're talkin' about fining (taxing) food places that don't provide a (in their opinion) healthy menu.
And restaurants who serve overweight people, just like bartenders who serve customers too many legal adult beverages.

I've always tried to avoid the crowds in restaurants.
Not so much due to smokers, but more the hackers and coughers and sneezers who leave their kooties floatin' in the air.

And they often sneeze and/or cough in their hands ---- and their hands go where?

Can it be assumed that for once, both parties agree on SOMEthing?
And can it be said that part of what they agree on is that the income generated by their decisions is of utmost importance to them, and can/does influence said decisions?

Here's what I find difficult to swallow ---
I've always been a smoker who's aware that others don't appreciate the smoke generated, so I'm very careful when and where I indulge.

But when I find a deserted area of a public park away from the crowds, with many picnic tables to choose from,
and a non-smoker just happens to decide that's the spot for them, too -- but they demand that the smoking stop because it bothers them.
Whuzzup with that?
Get-evenism?

And if I get up to move to another spot, that's not good enough.
NopE!
I get a lecture on how inconsiderate smokers ARE, and I should quit smoking instead of just movin' on to another location.

I've even had non-smokers scold me for smoking an UN-lit cigarette.

Why not just put the entire legal tobacco industry OUT of business?!
Put more folks, including Big truck truck drivers and companies out of WORK.
How important is employment?
The multi-party gubmint will save y'all.
But,........................
Many farmers will go under.
Just like many owner/operators.
I guess, just chalk it up as an improvement.
The end justifies the means.

We're a Representative Republic.

Folks speak of "Democracy" all the time, and think it's a good form of rule.
But the rough translation of democracy is
Mob, or Majority Rule.

And it works like this ---
if 51% of the people decide they want something, right or wrong, they are the
majority, and the majority rules.
Right or wrong.
51 of 100 people makes it happen.
So simple, even a caveman could do it.
And it makes it easy to change existing laws, if a simple majority is all that's required to affect the change.
Pretty basic and uncomplicated.
But is that what we REALLY want?

 

The smoking nazi's who tell me to stop smoking are told politely to bugger off. OK.. Not so politely. I usually tell 'em to hold their breath while I smoke.

 

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb discussing what to have for lunch.

Ohio even has a fink line you can call to report smoking-ban violations.

I'd like to see smugness and superiority regulated the same way alcohol and tobacco are.

 

I'm an ex smoker.. and I don't give a #### where you smoke, as long as it's not my house. Since you are not in my house, there seems to be no problem.

I have voted against every smoking ban bill that's come up. I've written letters encouraging our dully [SIC] elected representatives to wake up and smell the roses... and get the heck out of the personal lives of Americans.

If I don't want to breathe smoke - I don't go where it is (except Kalifornia - where half the plants seem to be smoking or burning all the time, anyway. Can't have humans adding to the crap in the air, I guess)

I'm glad perfume was brought up. I'm not allergic to it.. but I AM asthmatic. Nothing can shut me down faster than some stupid bimbo who uses the flea-dip method of perfume application.

I say, let's outlaw that, too.

meanwhile, I'm staying out of airplanes and elevators.

 

AMEN! Just too #### many folks want to be able to tell everybody else what to do, because "it is in your best interest!"

 

if i have to cough up to 8 bucks i better be allowed to smoke'm where i want especially when im by myself in a CLOSED environment..
