Drink as much water as possible, eliminate sodas and processed food from your food sources. Walk, do jumping jacks, step ups or any other cardio exercise while loading and unloading. Carry a jump rope and small dumbells and resistance straps for your muscles. Snack on almonds, sunflower seeds, string skim milk cheese and fresh fruits that are low in sugar. Burn more calories than you take in, and stop every few hours to stretch and walk around. It can be done - just make up your mind to do it!

When I got back into truck driving a few years ago I gained weight, to about 35 lbs overweight. After going solo and getting a 12v cooler I lost that 35 lbs within four months. Fast approaching my 60th birthday I'm easily (without effort or want) maintaining optimal weight.
Here's some links and research you can do to figure out best health by simply eating better:
Sugar: The Bitter Truth - this is about a 90 minute video on YouTube from Dr. Lustig, a leading researcher about the dangers of sugar in the diet. In this particular video he focuses on HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup). This video was the beginning of the migration of my diet, based on the amazing 160 lb weight loss of my nephew, who turned me on to this video.

Healthy Human Microbiome Diet
One thing I've learned as I transitioned my diet is that all sense of taste is acquired. I've reduced my total sugar intake to less than 20-30 gms per day. Recently the WHO (World Health Organization recommended a maximum of 30 gms per day, but noted that 0 added sugar per day is ideal but unrealistic with today's food distribution system).
Reducing sugar intake IS the first step to getting healthier. The second and most important thing is to follow the adage (and apologies to the slogan from the winning 1992 presidential campaign):
It's the fiber, stupid.
Increasing the amount of fiber in your diet is critical. If you do the research on human microbiome you will find that there is a whole host of bacteria that SHOULD thrive on breaking down fiber in your upper colon, which promotes energy and reduces issues with leaky gut syndrome, Chrone's Disease, and other unhealthy situations.
My typical diet per day:
Breakfast - fresh organic blueberries with plain yoghurt (yoghurt is a probiotic, the "good" bacteria in your gut)
Snacks while driving - a couple of bananas, an apple, an orange, and a few handfuls of nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds, or pine nuts)
Dinner - a salad that ##### slaps your tongue - featuring fresh basil, arugula, chives, dill, kale, red peppers, sugar snap peas, and a whole avocado. Salad dressing is olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sea salt, and a dash of Cholula hot chili garlic sauce. The olive oil satisfies hunger cravings.
Notice that this is a vegetarian diet as described so far, and has no bread or other grains. Sometimes I'll have a meal of quinoa (a grain with complete protein) with olive oil and a dash of honey, or will have hard boiled eggs or canned mackerel with sauerkraut. The sauerkraut is also a probiotic and helps aid digestion of animal proteins. Eggs are almost a perfect protein (meaning they have a completely balanced essential amino acid). About twice a month I'll have red meat, by itself, and prefer bison, elk, or venison if available, or a nice t-bone or ribeye steak if they aren't available.
The bulk of my carbohydrates are from raw, fresh, organic fruits and vegetables.
I'm almost 60 and work flatbed, which requires a lot of physical labor. On this diet I'm not hungry. The last time I had a cold (which was at least once or twice a winter occurrence) was in 2013, before I transitioned to this diet.
Coffee - I cold brew my coffee in a french coffee press. Heat releases compounds that are detrimental to health. Cold brewed tastes better and drinking a cold brewed cup is refreshing and tastes great. It takes from 2 to 12 hours (depending on your schedule) to "brew" a batch of coffee.
Chocolate - has compounds that boosts health. I've transitioned from Hershey's bars (with 30+ grams of sugar per bar) to Lindt's 90% pure cacao bars, with 3 grams per four squares. I eat about four squares per day.
With the added raw fibers in my diet I'm far more "regular". Can't remember the last time I was making maternity unit sounds from stall #3 at the TA. I'm healthier and have a lot more energy. The other thing I've noticed is that I went from borderline high blood pressure and high cholesterol to 110/70 with a resting heart rate of 54 and cholesterol in the "my gosh you have the blood health of a 20 year old athlete!" range.FLYMIKEXL and TruckerNerd Thank this. -

I hate to break this to you but trucking doesn't make you gay. Being around guys doesn't make you gay either. If so I'd have turned gay in Afghanistan. You might just be regular gay so just embrace it. Just don't try to embrace a trucker at the truck stop.
