Well, when I said I worked at a mega, I meant something with a lot more than 2k trucks... and as for blacksburg, sc I happened to fuel thetr yesterday at 1.76 so yeah I'm pretty confident in the numbers.
Anyone else getting ripped off by comdata?

Our fuel cost is listed for the public to see at mercertown.com. Just checked, right now in blacksburg, sc fuel is 1.790 for us. that's 36.9 cents off listed cash price.
If your company has "a lot more than 2k trucks" shouldn't they have more buying power to get it more than 3cpg cheaper?
And that's in south Carolina at places with a LOT less mark up on fuel than other locations. at some places in markets known to Jack the price up to gouge independents, I've seen savings over 60 cpg off listed cash price.taxihacker66 and double yellow Thank this. -
As I mentioned in my original post, I thought it was pretty good a small fleet or single O/O getting such a price compared to a mega.
Discounts vary a lot from pump price... I've seen over 70 cents off per gallon occasionally.
As far as why your company is getting so close to a larger company in rate, who knows? I know JCT has quite a few trucks but they routinely pay 30 cents more per gallon than we do... go figure.

I thought $1.87 was a great price. The cash price was $2.15 a gallon I believe. It's actually the first time since I bought the truck back in Feb '09 that I have ever pumped fuel that cost below $2 a gallon.
I remember back in the old days when we might get 10 cents a gallon off cash price plus swipe fees. Not really much of a discount. But like Spyder says, and this especially so with Pilot, they really mark the diesel up compared to smaller non truck stop type fuel places. And a few smaller chains don't gouge so bad. But there is a price for convenience and I don't really mind. -
So as an independent can I get that big of a discount? My fleetone card from RTS gets me 9 cents of the cash price at Pilots and 20-30 cents off at Speedways and Sapp, but that's about it

I don't know if you can or not. You would have to look into it.

Getting a natsc fuel card can get pretty decent discounts. And if you broker from some companies, Mercer and landstar to name two, I'm sure there are others. they have options that you can set up to be paid on their fuel card. Back when I ran my own numbers I did this with Mercer, it worked out well cause about a third of my loads were through them and they loaded the card with in a few hours of delivery. Charged like a buck for the processing fee. That enabled me to always have enough funds on that card to buy fuel when running loads for other firms.
There was also a way to upload funds from my checking account to the card but never needed to so I don't know what the fees or process are. If you pull a lot for one broker you should look into if they have a comdata or efs option.mp4694330 Thanks this. -
Thanks, unfortunately all Landstar could get me was pretty much 5c off the cash price, that's why I went with RTS, could not anything better...

Thieving Somanna Botches !!

I'm surprised landstar was so little of a benefit. Really makes ya want to pull their load when the other brokerage firms have the same load for the same pay, don't it?
