That is why i said they are going to them. Also it is not yet known if it will be company wide but they have run trials with cameras. Many of the larger carriers that are going to them are proceeding with caution as the driver facing cameras have not been well received by drivers throughout the industry. Also there is some concern as to what the legalities of the cameras as far as whether it is an invasion of privacy for the driver. This is primarily with Leased trucks and lease operators..
Some carriers are sipmly implementing them and that's the way it is. While others are taking a slower methodical approach such as TMC who stated they were only using driver facing cameras in trucks they had concerns of the drivers abilities based off experience or number of incidents.. Now they have moved that to having them installed on new trucks and saying they are testing them as they are doing with automatic transmissions and will take into account driver feedback before making a decision...
Since the FMCSA came out with an endorsement for the driver facing cameras many carriers are using that to implement them on the basis that it will eventually be made law... Plus there is pressure from Insurance carriers in hopes that they will be used to reduce the carriers exposure to law suits.. -
For those that have commented on this thread that if your not doing anything wrong you don't have anything to worry about. That's the stupidest argument for cameras I've ever heard. That's about as unamerican a statement as I've ever heard. Where does that logic stop for you? The dmv installing a listening device in your personal car because you hold a cdl? The government installing a listening device in your bedroom to make sure you're not a terrorist. Big brother likes baby steps. They also like a captive audience. Listening devices in an area where you should have an expectation of privacy bothers me greatly. with that said swift sent me to school so I'm stuck with them for awhile. So much for some phone sex with my girl or any expectation of privacy at all. Do the cameras start listening when the truck be rocking as me and my female mentor are rocking the jazz bar sharing a bunk? Probably.

I am sure that Swift will consider that a critical event so definite audio and video and a whole lot of splanin to do.. Although I am not sure how they would approach the coaching on that situation?? lol You hit the nail on the head it simply is a matter of when do drivers start saying Enough is Enough?stevez57305 Thanks this.

Work Place cameras are everywhere, we are on them all day. A Drivercam is essentially the same thing, I can understand that argument, not necessarily agree, but I understand the analogy, it really works well for a daycab. It's when the truck is shut off, and that road tractor becomes a drivers home, his private space that it really becomes intrusive and an invasion of ones privacy.
I work for a small power only company and I am leased to a Carrier that just installed them in their company trucks, which are mainly daycabs. Most of the OTR freight is done with O/O's, we do not have them and my company has no plans to install them.Big Block Thanks this. -
