I fixed my post and took arguing out.
It's still stupid. -
That's what I thought. You don't know what a recessed dock at a sheet rock plant is do ya? Let me explain. They are 48 feet deep, usually around 106-108 inches wide, deck height. So basicly, you have a couple inches on each side of the trailer for 48 feet. You don't need to look "across" the trailer, it's straight behind you.

We are thinking of the same type of dock. I was thinking of the ones that don't have enough room out front to get a straight shot setup to back. You will be looking across the deck to get it in the hole. But still, it's an empty flat.

You guys need to get off the road more....
soloflyr Thanks this. -
Off the road or into the middle of a crowded refinery with a 102' long 14 wide 100,000 pound load.

Backing a spread, even with a dump valve is a whole different animal than backing a group axle. It's a whole new adventure every time and IMHO it's a whole new advanced skill set, especially when you're dealing with one of the recessed docks, or backing off asphalt onto a concrete driveway that ends in gravel. With a curtain van I get it all. My favorites are docks in pits. As soon as the back axle breaks over the edge it spins on a dime.
Van guys rarely have to deal with job sites and you can't tricycle a box trailer.
Flatbedders can back up plenty good & I can back up that statement.
