I was on with Canadian RV Logistics. They are owned (or where at the time anyway?) by the same group that owns all the dealerships....RV Canada, Powersports Canada, Auto's Canada, etc.

They were really good people to work for. You pretty much only delivered to their dealerships.

Might not be a good choice for your friend though seeing you are in Calgary, as they only had dealerships from Winnipeg to Nova Scotia. Nothing west of the Peg to get you home.

I can't remember who all did the west. I think Star and was it called Saskatoon transport??

Saskatoon transport is the one my friend is applying at, so we should be busy then?

I think so. I always saw LOTS of their trucks at the factories when I was picking up.

I loved the job when I was doing it (I got out of big trucks for a while, then came back) but the only bad thing doing it as a Canadian is the insurance is a killer compared to what the Americans pay.
I was paying more for insurance on an F-350 than I was on my dump trucks. That's what makes it prohibitive as a part time job. You need to put the miles on to pay for itself.

If you and your friend are new to this, my biggest advice is get as big a fuel tank as you can. Whether it be an auxiliary tank or a slip tank in the bed. That was the key to your profit right there....buying all the fuel you can carry where it is cheap near Indiana.

If it wasn't for the cost of insurance I would still love to make the odd trip when work is slow for the dump trucks.

Each of the trucks we are driving has a 100 gallon slip tank and I believe its good to buy fuel in the US but what about the exchange...Will we lose on that? I've hauled a lot into the states when I was doing the long haul and always bought fuel down there..Never had to fuel much in Canada because of that...

That's what I had, a 100 gallon in the bed. Fuel was always over a dollar a gallon cheaper at a couple places in Indiana than it was anywhere else. I always came out ahead, and the exchange was bad back when I was doing it.

If you ever get up around Sault Ste. Marie let me know. I have a homemade bed that replaces the rear seat in the F-350 that I'd give you. It's just sitting here.

That's what I thought about the fuel..My passport, I just discovered, is expired so I'll have to wait till after Christmas to drive...I'm getting my renewal app done today. Thank you for the offer of the bed..I'll stay in touch
