Have to get a police escort when in Maryland being that wide.
Can only travel during daylight hours M-Saturday.
Have to have a front and back flashing light.
And I'm pretty sure most states want 2 pilot cars, front and back.
PA will want a copy of your insurance.
Expect to get hassled at every weight station. And true this is, sometimes the DOT makes up reasons to shut you down, Maryland.
Help with wide load!!

I think hurst is the last guy anyone should be asking about how to do oversize correctly if I remember right and why a certain other thread got shut down....
-
Why because I was mistaken about the hub width on a machine and corrected? You guys like to harbor old animosity and hold grudges for things I have long since let go.
Fact,.. I still know the rules, I am still qualified to give adequate advice. Whether I choose to bend the rules or ignore certain rules is of my own discretion. I would never advise anyone to break the rules. What I do is my own business. I've never come here crying about having to pay a fine because I broke the rules.
I've tried previously to make amends for getting that thread in the uproar that it escalated into. I was having some personal issues and my temperament was not in the best place. But its comments like this one that make me apprehensive to even say I am sorry for fear I'll get ganged up on and chastised over something that I feel should be left in the past.
So if you dont want me to offer my help,.. I'll bow out and let you guys handle it.

Hi Hurst, I haven't hauled any oversize ( but plenty of overweight) and I figured, if someone does that for a living, I'd listen to you. You won't make it far in this business, without consulting someone, and if I didn't know something, was never afraid to ask advice. I don't know what thread you are referring to, and maybe it's just as well, but one thing hasn't changed in trucking, is some peoples attitudes toward our fellow truckers. ( kind of like farmers) I try and get along with everybody, and to quote one of my favorite bands, Lynyrd Skynyrd, " I ain't hiding from nobody, nobody's hiding from me".

It was not exactly a highlight moment I like to look back on. I am human and have my off days like anyone else.
I am far from an expert and still learning new things all the time. That said,.. I do have enough experience to offer sound advise. I enjoy helping where I can and I appreciate you mentioning me.
What hurts me the most is that you can do 1000 good things. But all is forgotten and you are only remembered for things people disliked.
Its like searching a trucking company on the internet. Its rare to find positive postings and comments as people are quick to lash out after they have become disgruntled.
I probably should not have posted this much here in this thread, taking it off topic. For that I do apologize. If the mods would like to delete this,.. I am ok with it. I just needed to get this off my chest.

My advice is start with a ten wide LOL.

That's actually good advice. With a 12'6 load, the game changes too much. Extension mirrors, pilot cars, beacon light regs, speed limits, different routes, different curfew requirements...etc.rank, Al. Roper and KenworthGuyNH Thank this.

This is why we need the "actual" dimension.
TripleSix Thanks this. -
And the starting and ending points.johndeere4020 and Al. Roper Thank this.
