They made 12.7's and 14L's with compact geartrain, it's not a displacement thing, just a change they made. That started the compact geartrain right around when they started EGR, which is not long after the introduction of the 14L. 14L's with the old style geartrain and no EGR are out there, just rare.

There is an overhaul kit that converts the 12.7 to a 14.0.
Same crank and same rods. -
I think the 14L came out about 1998
Egr was out in 2003 or so.
The Pre egr 14L was only in trucks for 3-4 years.
But no problem ordering one in a glider. -
Do you have a kit number on that? The 14L stroke is 0.32" longer than the 12.7 . I think you may be mistaken, if a kit exists, it's aftermarket and would have dangerously thin liners to get 14 liters from a 6.3" stroke.

Any info you could possibly want for comparison between the two motors is available here:

That's right, 1998 for the 14L.
EGR was spread out, officially 2002 was the first year, but a ton of trucks were pre-ordered to avoid them. It wasn't until 2004 that they all had them. Same goes for the compact geartrain, I've only seen it on one 2002 before, and only a few 2003's. By 2004, almost all had it.jamespmack Thanks this. -
Here we go again.
This is for the ddec5 . We are talking about ddec4 pre emission engines for gliders here folks. HELLO! -
Lol, relax, only thing he asked about was weight. Even though he's building a glider he can still see that there's not much difference between them with DDEC5 specs.

The 575HP/1850ft engine? Or is there another?
