Back to the original topic... One thing I read that is contributing to slower freight, along with a stagnent economy, is that a lot of companies are sitting on inventory they ordered in advance because of the threat of strikes at the West Coast Ports that never materialized. Hence their orders are less until they work through the existing inventory.

Ugh the stupidity and ignorance is overflowing in this thread. I live in southern CA, 50k is barely a liveable wage to a single person with little or no debt.

In order to buy a condo, you'd need to make at least 80 to 90k, sorry I won't live in the ghetto.

Anyways, I came into this industry refusing to drive a truck for less than 60k a year, call it dumb luck but I'm going on year 4 now and always made more than 60k which I think is underpaid for what I do.

People who are content with 50k or less are getting ripped off. Yes I know a retarded monkey can do this job, but you need a reality check and see how much these loads are paying. Yes I know about overhead etc.

It is safe to assume that after the inventories deteriorate, then the demand will increase some?

Lol. California should be its own country with all the stupid regulations they have. Of course the cost of living is higher there. But then again some of the worst truck drivers I've seen coming to the East Coast come from California. $60k in California is the equivalent of $45k down south.

Thanks is what I gathered from the article.

To be honest my Dispatcher keeps telling me freight is slow, and then sends me loads. I have been running a good 3k to 3.2k miles a week. So I haven't seen it slow down personally, but I keep hearing it has, so I am considering myself fortunate.

This is why talk of salaries is all relative. The Cost of living varies greatly. I just compared $50k living in Middletown DE, where I Live to Los Angeles. I would need to make almost $70k to live at the same standard.

What you need is not necessarily what another needs.

This is a pretty cool comparison tool if anyone wants to play around with it.

Actually it isn't , it's more like comparing 60 to 25 down here in the south....45,000 a year here in NC , is a fairly middle class wage. Anything over 60,000 here in the south ( NC is where I am ) is upper middle income level in most areas , some it isn't but for the most part it is.
