Mercedes motors have a place, unfortunately class 8 trucks isn't one of them. It will never happen but in my opinion, as troublesome & over rated as these motors were Daimler Benz should have been forced to offer a buy back on them. I wouldn't recommend the MBE4000 to my worse enemy!!

Other than having to pull the camshaft out the back of the motor the mbe4000 is pretty easy to work on & a simple design. If they would have made it a little bit bigger displacement & put out more horsepower it probably wouldn't have been to bad of a motor. The mercedes motor I had was rated at 450hp but my other truck with a 400hp A model cat would run circles around it & get the same mileage.

Man it's strange. We have two 450 Mercedes both in dump trucks that gross 79-80,000 pounds. One in an M2 Freightliner and the other in a Sterling. Both 2005's. Never had any trouble with them. They pull just as strong as my 2013 DD15 505 and get better fuel mileage. Yet I have friends that have them and almost went bankrupt. Some are good and some seem terrible?

Yeah I don't know, there's an outfit out of Sioux falls that pulls doubles & they love the mbe4000. I was just pulling a spread ax grossing 86,000lbs & it was laboring all the time & averaged only 4mpg.

Interested in what you find out. I just bought a 06 Columbia with a Merc in it at auction. Great looking clean truck, but if it goes down I already have a great running series 60 in a truck that's falling apart I'd love to put in it.

Spoke to Ed at Mawk Industries, no wire harness available.
Spoke to kustomharness, also don't have wire harness available.

But if you purchase their engine packages, somehow they're available
