Macks,Western stars hold up the best for logging. Up North lockers & 18 spds are typical on loggers.

I didn't mean for you to do that brother, it was me that was confused.DirtyBrown Thanks this.

Yeah man, I just figured it was confusing myself after I looked at it from ya'll point of view

Scott, I have been looking all over this site trying to find someone who has logging experience. I just saw your post and wanted to ask a question.
I am purchasing a 2011 or 2012 Mack Pinnacle CXU613, MP8 - 445 - 534 hp, Gearing is 3.42, 10 speed
I plan to put this truck in the logging woods in South Carolina. No steep hills but it can get muddy.
Do you think this truck will hold up well in an off road application if maintenance is kept up??
Thanks for your help. -
Hey man sorry I didn't see your question earlier I have been out of state workin, anyways to address your question: personally (and lord knows I'm no expert, just got a little experience enough to be dangerous to me and everyone lol) in Michigan I'd never take less than an 18 speed off road. We have 164,000 legal weights with our trucks here so that has somethin to do with it, so dang heavy you gotta be able to split those gears. I don't, however, know what you're up against in SC. A ten speed might be fine. I do know a buddy of mine has 7 trucks, he used to run all peterbilts but in the last couple years has switched to all Macks. He loves em, says they're solid as heck and no problems gettin in and out. He even has a couple automatics in the trucks that we all thought he'd hate but his guys love em.
Wish I could be more help, I just don't know the conditions in which you're fixin to drive. You didn't say, but your truck has full lockers right? Lord have mercy I'd hate to go off-roading without full lockers lol.
