Hey everyone, I'm looking for some advice on my situation. Currently I am at home waiting on a phone call from my current company to hear when I go out with a trainer. Today is day 14 of waiting, the only response I get from them, when I get a response, is that they're working on it. It's a smaller, but growing company and last I heard the waiting list for trainers after my group got our CDL's was 15+.
That being said, I'm starting to look at alternative companies that would be willing to reimburse the cost of the schooling or pay outright (with a contract I'm sure) my contract with my current company which is ~$4600+12.5% if contract isn't met. So in total I think it'll be between 5k and 6k. I don't want to leave the company but at the same time I can't just sit here dwindling my thumbs waiting another 2-3 weeks.
So far I've looked into Prime, and Jim Palmer Trucking. On top of those two I have a buddy who I met while in the CDL school for my current company who has since left due to unforseen circumstances at home and has went to Swift and they have bought his contract with this company outright. Personally I can't say anything for or against swift but all the reviews I've read have made me leery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Need some advice

I know nothing about any training programs, and very little about Swift, but most companies in this business can be great if you want them to be and they can really suck if you want. It's kinda what you make of the situation at hand
Bob Dobalina, Rock 'n Roll Relocater and Giuseppe Ventolucci Thank this. -
I agree with you on that, and I tend to think of myself as easy to get along with and go with the current rather than against it. However, there is at least 1 guy, that I know of, that got his CDL after me in my group (we were supposed to be sent out in the order you get your CDL) that has been out with a trainer since the day before thanksgiving.
I'm trying to be as patient as I can but it is getting more difficult each day I have to wait. We were told that they start lining us up with trainers the day we pass for our CLP. That was 5 weeks ago today. -
It might be a function of where you live. They could be trying to pair you with a trainer that's close byRock 'n Roll Relocater Thanks this.

That's a possibility, their main yard is about 2.5 hours from where I live in STL. But you never know, I just wish they were a little bit more communicative about what the plan is and what's going on.mountaingote Thanks this.

Understand you want tuition reimbursement, but sometimes it's best to go with a good company that pays well with consistant miles even if they don't have tuition reimbursement.
Here's 4 that will probably have you on the road ASAP and all 4 have good reputation. The websites have "experience required", but in fact they all 4 hire new high quality CDL grads. You'll have to ask about the reimbursement, because there's nothing on the website about it.

Transport America has tuition reimbursement.

You should be praying they forget you exist. When I was in your position, I went home and the following week I started working for someone else.
I much rather owe the company, then struggle mightily to pay my bills and mortgage. Every situation is different though -
That's kinda my point too; tuition reimbursement is OK if you're getting the miles and other pays. I'd rather start right out with a high quality company that pays well and consistantly good miles.Rock 'n Roll Relocater and Giuseppe Ventolucci Thank this.

Seems like after a while, your employer, who chooses not to employ you, should be in breech of contact. May want to look into that.
