Egads...so there is literally a waiting list of 15 (or more) people ahead of you in line for a trainer?

If that's the case then I'd say take your chances elsewhere and hope they don't come after you for the remaining balance of the school. Otherwise, it sounds like you may be waiting awhile....a long while.....

On a side note, how long are you supposed to be with a trainer?

Decided to break this up from my previous post....

A cell phone bill isn't bad, but you'd be surprised how much money you spend as a new driver. The more experienced guys have figured things out and they know how to live cheap, either with inverters and appliances in the truck (if allowed by the company) along with other money saving tricks, but new drivers aren't always going to have hotel coffee pots, mini-fridges, etc. when they first start and that means you'll be eating out a lot unless you stock up on sandwich making materials and eat cold Pop-Tarts. ;) Tolls, scale tickets, showers / laundry at truck stops, food / drinks, maps, electronic goodies, etc. are all items you'll spend money on. Companies will normally reimburse you for tolls and stuff, but it comes out of your pocket initially.

Did you work for Henderson previously? Will I have to send that to them each week if I go to another company or?

There was at least 15 on the list, I know of at least 1 who has left with a trainer, he tested after me. Where exactly in line am I, I'm not sure. We are supposed to be out with a trainer for 6-8 weeks depending on how well we do, they "can" drop us off quicker. We had one guy I talked to who had years of previous experience come through and get his CDL again and was out for a week.

I've been starting to meal prep, currently I spend about $40 a week on food (chicken breast, rice, veggies and some fruit), I steam the first 3 in a rice cooker and voila, excellent meals IMO. The main company I am looking at has APU's and 1500W inverters already installed, fridge I would have to pay for but isn't a necessity right away. I got some money set back from my previous full-time job and I'll get a yearly check from being on the Fire department.

You're at least ahead of the game on food which is one of the big areas new drivers blow money on. Subway, Burger King, Iron Skillet....whatever happens to be inside the truck stop they're fueling at is what they eat and before you know it, they blow through their pay in 3 days. lol

Joking aside, if the company can't give you even a rough idea of where you are "in line" then either you need to push them for more info or seriously look elsewhere since that gives you a little insight as to how well they'll communicate with you as an actual driver. We've given you some advice, but ultimately, you're at the helm. Just keep in mind that a lot of "new driver friendly" carriers have screwing the new guys down to a science in a variety of ways. ;)

    Mike2522 Thanks this.

I'm not perfect by no means, but I'm working on it, although I may have some BK every now and again xD but not constantly, I'd be bloated up like a hot air balloon from all that sodium.

My plan from the start of this week was to give them until friday (tomorrow) to have a definitive answer as to when I can expect to go out or be headed out with a trainer, if I don't hear anything by tomorrow afternoon I will begin serious discussions with other companies about moving to them. 14+ days after being told their average wait for a trainer was 0-72 hours with the occasional week wait was apparently just some smoke blowing.

Thanks for the advice everybody, hopefully I'll be on the road ASAP, just in time for the snowy and icy roads. What better time to learn to drive a 40 ton machine right?

I would ask them if they are going to intend to get you a mentor or not and have them reply in writing, seeing that there is no real excuse for it with 600 trucks or what ever the number is. I would also tell them that if they are employing you as a driver, then assign you a truck so you canproduce revenue and collect a paycheck. There is no law or regulations that can prevent you from going on the road because you have already been trained to drive and earned that cdl.

Maybe reading the contract and looking for a conditional clause that would release you from the obligation to pay. As mentioned maybe getting a lawyer and considering it a breech of contract or maybe depending on the state could be construed as illegal employment practices that trap you into waiting.

I will attempt to do that tomorrow, they got plenty of trucks sitting at the yard that I saw, but they have no trainers. Honestly, I don't have a copy of the contract, I asked multiple times but never received it.

    Clue #2.

Wonder why they never gave you one....didn't want you to be able to read it?
The contract you signed is legally binding, whatever BS they spew verbally isn't.

Indeed, I read it before I signed it but that was 5 weeks ago so its hard to remember it in entirety. I will ask again tomorrow for a copy to be mailed to me, not faxed or emailed. We'll see how it goes but I'm not holding my breath.

And there it is! All the way to post #10 before someone suggesting starting legal action. Did you see the cost of school? A lawyer, of which none will take this case, will be that cost just to review!
