Just an important FYI here to anyone considering the retention of any type of company that specializes in the 'cleaning up' or the 'improvement' of any type of negative information being reported on your DAC report;
Bottom line; don't hire any of them. None.
Here's why; you see, there is no company (not one, no matter how flashy and promising the advertisements) that is able to improve, fix, challenge, or change any information on your DAC that you are not able to do yourself.
Unfortunately, the DAC 'fixit' industry is yet another scheme that preys upon both a driver's fear and ignorance by providing an unnecessary service at exorbitant fees. Here's what they don't want you to know:
Basically, the companies (example; HireRight, Equifax, etc.) that are in business to report any type of consumer background information are all subject to the same rules as imposed by the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act), which is a federal law that regulates any consumer reporting agency. So any company that reports on driver history is subject to the same federal rules as a company that reports on any type of consumer credit.
What this means to you is that you have specific rights that apply to you; in this case as a driver. One of those rights is that you as a driver can dispute any information on your DAC report. And the dispute process is quite simple; any information that you want to challenge can be specifically written in an actual 'snail mail' letter and then sent via Certified mail to the reporting agency with which you have the dispute. Remember to send it Certified! The company then MUST investigate and obtain the results back to you within 30 days. Period. A dispute can also be initiated online at the reporting companies' website (as provided by federal law, incidentally) but a certified, physical letter is preferential for best results.
This entire process is both quick and simple. And free.
Incidentally, any company that you might 'hire' to fix your report will do exactly the same thing.... for about $349.00! And these fixit companies don't have any special 'tricks' or 'connections' exclusively available to only them.
Think for yourself and good luck to all!
Do not hire a DAC 'Fixit' company! Clean your DAC yourself!

HireRight filed bankruptcy. Is it even possible to get them to change anything at this point?
-
I think the company itself is a big scam. They carved out a niche for themselves in order to make money from driver-related information. They have been a monopoly from the beginning. They have been sued repeatedly, and have shut down repeatedly and reopened under different names. DAC, then USIS, then HireRight in the years that I've been driving. Pretty shady. Just my opinion.

What is "snail mail", and the HireRight is the company that sent my dac report so do i send to them or the trucking company i worked with that reported it?
That trucking company was bought out by its sister company about two yrs ago. -
Snail mail is the postal service, as opposed to email.
HireRight is the most recent name of the "DAC report" company. From what I understand, they are considered a credit reporting agency, only instead of financial institutions reporting to them and sharing information like a credit bureau, they deal mainly with trucking companies.
Apparently the same laws apply that are in the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and for regular credit reporting agencies there is a dispute process where the original company would have to provide documentation about what they reported to HireRight. In the case of credit bureaus, many times they will remove information that you dispute because the paper trail isn't complete or easy to access or it would cost too much money to pay one of their people to fully investigate the matter. As a result, the entry is removed from your credit report.
The same might happen with your DAC report if you are lucky. Go to their website and see if there is a formal dispute process and then follow it to the letter. This may require use of "snail mail" for it to be official, but I'm not sure. Good luck. -
Since they were bought out, I would think you would have a good chance of disputing information and getting it removed. What is on your report that you're worried about?

Thanks for doing the legwork for me (I just looked it up and was about to post the 2nd link)!
-
Unreported damage is on my report that I worry of, Sneinder asked me about it when they reviewed my application

You can open a dispute on the Hire Rite website.
If the company that reported it to them does not respond to the dispute within 30 days it will be removed.
