Are we able to call the dealer with our engine serial number and get that kind of info?

Cummins can be a real pain in the backside to work on.Expensive too. Detroit has been a far more reliable engine for me and easy to work on. Best of luck with your purchase.

From what I was told if you or whoever had the truck before got a over haul done at Cat Cummins or Detroit then it's in their system and they can look it up. I believe if you buy the kit they'll register it but I'm not 100% on that

Only if extended warranty was purchased at time of overhaul. If not, then overhaul record are only kept locally at the dealer that didi it as well as the owners copy. Cummins is the worst since the NOW program it depends on series engine 855 2250 2350. Some didn't have the now program available at time of overhaul so was purchased later. Since the dealer has a contribution to it it it has improved but not much. Detroit has no database at all have to go to dealer rebuild was done. Any overhaul kit purchased by any mfgr has an over the counter parts warranty period. Only records kept are total engine swings done at dealer level new engine serial numbers are recorded to that VIN.

The only reason im looking at an older truck is i want to get something for 24-26,000 and dump 15-20,000 in overhaul in. To make last while longer. Using settlement to gett everthing.
