With your situation you can pretty much forget about local work, being home everyday or every weekend. You'll be lucky just getting hired. If you do get hired be prepared to be away for at least 30 days before returning home.
Good luck!

lagbrosdetmi Thanks this. -
In five years, I'm happy to help. He's had two misdemeanor-level accidents recently? Sorry, no. I wouldn't hire him on a bet. And neither will any company out there worth a ####.
I'm all about forgiveness. We've all made mistakes. But you just can't tell me that 2 misdemeanor accidents mean nothing. That's not bad luck, it's bad driving.Giuseppe Ventolucci Thanks this. -
You're point of view is a little too extreme , although I do agree on your opinion about driving a 53' trailer with not much experience. Hopefully his past experiences help him change his mentality and the way he used to drive

I don't drive anywhere close to as recklessly as I use too. Unfortunately I had to learn the hard way it was not worth the money from totaling/damaging a car or killing someone to drive the way I used too. For the most part I drive conservative these days.
That said is there no hope of finding even a decent company to work for? While I do want to do this job, I'm not going to go hungry in the streets if I don't get one now. But I do want to make a serious change in the direction of how my life is going. -
I'd love to help point you in the right direction but all I know is local companies here in SoCal. People are suggesting Carolina Cargo so give them a call later this morning and see what they say. Their website, if it's the same company, seems to have typical hiring standards but that doesn't mean they can't or don't work with people.
As for getting your CDL, try a family-owned local school. I went to one around here and paid $1,200 total and it was pay-per-class so you didn't have a full commitment if you decided to stop. -
I don't think it's extreme at all.
It's not two speeding tickets, it's two misdemeanor CRIMINAL offenses behind the wheel.

You have to work really hard to get ONE reckless driving. Trust me, I HAVE ONE. (well over 20 years back)
TWO? in a short period? Ya, sure, I'll totally trust you with my $200k truck and trailer and my customer's $100k load. 'Cause hey, we wouldn't want to JUDGE?!
Jesus himself wouldn't trust this guy with a high value load. Why the Heck should any prospective employer? -
"For the most part?" Need to do better than that if you wanna drive 18 wheelers.
I believe in second chances, but I think you're gonna have a hard time finding an employer.
Expect a low salary and being gone away from home a few weeks -
I enjoy driving, particularly at night time. I like the feeling of being alone on the road and just driving. Being in the present moment, with the radio on, while being on the road, its very peaceful to me. I've always enjoyed it. Plus its something I've always thought about but I went to college because it seems like it was what I was suppose to do. Honesty I want to do it to see if its my calling, if its what I love and meant to do in life. If its not I'll move on

I'm the same; love running coast to coast and night driving. Dim the dash lights, xm radio, hot coffee, and roll on till the sun come up, then sleepy time. To me, that's a perfect day in trucking.
Giuseppe Ventolucci Thanks this.
