Just got the call I have been waiting for, for the last week. Got my hire out of PGT Trucking starting orientation on 4/2/12. Gonna be going on their wallboard division which has decent home time which really helps with my visitation with kids. Just wanted to ask any experienced Flatbed drivers if they have any advice for a rookie starting out?

Learn your regulations tire down every load like your kid or family will be riding next to you drink plenty of fluids in the sumner keep extra gloves and warm clothes for winter months and the rainy season it's alot easier to take off extra securement at your delivery than it is to pick it up off the side of the road
Coreyfield and kebo072 Thank this. -
I just left PGT. Good people in Monaca. However, they are PICKY about tires. Keep a close eye on them. I was wrote up for not writing up bald tires on my trailer even though I was at the shop for a PM (I assumed they would check them anyway) and that the truck had just passed a level 1 inspection a few days before.
They give out tread depth gauges and air pressure gauges. GET THEM!! I have seen guys get fired for not checking tires.
Again, they are VERY picky.
As for wallboard, I never ran them since I live in the south. But I hear it doesn't pay that great. Hopefully the home time is worth it. Try to move over to the shale pipe loads. Much better pay and runs the PA area also.pchandler99 and Coreyfield Thank this. -
I worked for them for 8 years. If your a rookie, don't worry, they don't treat anyone special. Good pay. They have a cookie cutter mentality. which means 64 mph. Don't expect special treatment they are a big company and you will be just a number to them. Do you job, and you will be just fine.

Where does the wallboard division usually run? Northeast?
