Used to haul haz mat, then became an O/O hauling grain; 90% of trips under 100 mi.
Now hauling haz mat once again, pulling a tanker. I was told by another driver that the criteria for tire checks changed a couple of years ago.
Could someone educate me on this change, or provide me with a link to find out myself?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, it's true. I've been pulling a tank since '01. Google *FMCSA Regulations + tire check*. It will take you right to the page.

There's no more miles. You've got to check them every time you park.

As of November 4, 2002, hazmat drivers were no longer required to stop periodically to check their tires. FMCSA noted that advancements in tire technology had dramatically reduced the frequency of fires caused by tire overheating. Moreover, requiring hazmat haulers to stop frequently and at regular intervals poses a security risk.

We were told it's all because of 9-11 and the security risk. The risk changed for us because before they would steal the truck for the load and now of course it's for the terror. There's still some that want the load especially with gas prices so high but you have to find a dealer willing to take the chance and the companies watch closer.
