You're a gold mine of knowledge on all things trucking but I will have to respectfully disagree with this statement. This might have been a good industry in the 70's when you started but now it's become an over-regulated prison on wheels. Even when I started in 2005 it was still relatively lax as E-logs were a new novelty that only a handful of bottom feeders like Werner had. You still had the old and better HOS, doctors didn't try to disqualify you for being twenty pounds overweight, and you didn't have to register your medical with the DMV. The CSA point system wasn't even thought of yet. I saw what was coming and got out of the industry a few years ago and am very happy for it. It will only get worse.

    A few corrections regarding Hogan...
He mentioned an OTR position with Hogan. Never heard of such a thing. They have primarily local and regional work so any OTR would be rare.

As far as the Target account, NO LUMPING...ever. It's 100% drop and hook. Now the Dollar General account is a different story, but then again you are making roughly $1300 @ week.

It is true Hogan doesn't pay the best. Not a horrible company but quite a bit of slip seating unless you are pulling reefers.

@Canned Spam , yes. I'm still in a Hogan truck even after a couple bumps last week.

@sadarr , listen to @Chinatown. 'Nuff said there.

@GoBucks43228 , do you work for Hogan? OTR would be the perfect description for the "Ohio Regional" assignment. Not sure who slip-seats, other than maybe the dedicated daycabs or home dailies. In those cases, so what? It's not like SNI who slip-seats after a week in a sleeper! Ew.

I'll say great things about Hogan in Columbus because the Safety Manager took my recent bumps in stride. I was encouraged, not scolded. I was given a chance to talk and probably a chance to get more appropriate practice.

Hogan is a mega, you will get thrown in the deep-end. Craigslist ads for them are misleading. I'm not thrilled with the bait and switch in regards to the local routes. I'm not happy with getting a 2013 Prostar that couldn't get 7mpg if dropped from orbit WITH a tailwind, and MPG being a bonus category.

All that being said, everybody starts somewhere. The pay structure could be better. However, I'm okay with Hogan and as I've said before I see more experienced people coming back to Hogan than any other carrier I've worked for. You won't catching me bad mouthing them.

This is worth a lot. The beer company I worked at one day I skinned the bumper of a Nissan and they pretty much just said "Ehh try not to make a habit of it and just come back tomorrow and give em hell." I don't know if it's changed since then, but that's how they were.
Where I work now I'm always hopping out to get out and look. Heck there are stops where it doesn't feel right if I don't get out and look ha-ha!

So I wonder how these companies do the fuel mileage bonus if the #### truck won't even reach what they say.

He can work at Freymiller for 12 months then will qualify for a good local/regional job that doesn't pay junk wages. He will be an experienced driver applying for those better jobs.
    Cardinal Logistics
Waggoners Trucking is looking for Regional Flatbed Drivers to run between Oklahoma City, San Antonio, and Houston (and possibly Broussard, LA). Class A license and have at least one year verifiable experience. .50 cpm + accessorial pays.
Fuel Tankers usually pay well and want 1 yr. driving experience.
Southeastern Freight Lines - LTL req. 1 yr. exp.
    Jacobus - local tanker
    Anheuser-Busch

Then again, maybe he'll like Freymiller and stick with it. My point is, after 12 months it's a whole new world of driving opportunities that pay well.

. You got that right. Fuel tank drivers need tanker and hazmat but that's not too difficult to get. Cardinal Logistics or A&G are both good.

I made over a thousand a week at Cardinal pulling reefers. Left that for hazmat/tankers for even more pay. I did OTR hazmat/tankers though because I don't like local work.
