Have you asked them for a copy of the specific agreement you must sign? It would be wise to review it specifically. There may be contingencies that allow relief if you are terminated without cause, don't receive a minimum number of miles, or so forth. It is also possible that the amount is reduced on a pro-rata basis. Under no circumstances would it be advisable to accept it without actually reviewing the specifics. In my opinion, many of the negative things we read here are a result of uninformed decisions. The old saying, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" comes to mind.
You guys are killing me.......

I hit the thank button because you are doing your homework and not making any quick decision.every company you are interested in you will get drivers that say they are the worst.I drove for Werner so what you hear believe them. I would look for companies with the least complaints.magnum and Crete are spouse to be good companies. also go to the discuss your favorite company and see what starter companies are listed.

Unfortunately I talked to the recruiter before I heard about this policy. She did not mention it. I do plan to call her back since I have since put together a list of questions to ask each company.pattyj Thanks this.

listen... it is what you make of it, especially during your first year. Have to get experience and then move on up and out., not going to get the red carpet treatment anywhere, especially as a new driver, with a big, bottom feeder company. They are good for getting your feet wet however. Try looking at some local LTL companies, many hire new drivers.

Another vote for Roehl. They have a strong freight base in your area and should keep you busy. I'm not too familiar with there training program though, as I came to them with experience. I ran flatbed for them and would recommend that division.
Plan to stay with your first employer for at least a year, this, along with a clean record will open many doors. -
This industry is full cry babies. There's no shortage of complaints about everything. You have to understand that most folks who ended up as truck drivers got here because they failed at other things and they will probably fail at this too.
Get out there and do your job and stay away from the whiners. Success will follow you in due time.
Good luck.Last edited: Dec 7, 2015

It takes time. Keep your head and do your time. It'll come but you have to do your time. Just know your going to do your fair share of great loads and not so great loads. Could get a great trainer or Freddie Kruger. Just know it will all be temporary and things will smooth out for ya. Its one tough industry and it chews some up and spits them out on a daily basis. Become a wolf with thick skin or become a lamb and let this eat you alive. Do what you think is best and stick it out no matter what. Things get better and you'll look back this in five years and laugh. Or cry. Or a bit of both. Hang in there. Good luck and stay safe.

Go to N&M Transfer in Neenah WI. Large local outfit always looking for drivers. Most of the drivers I spoke to were happy there and have been working with N&M for years very low turnover. Good pay weekends off home every night. It would be a good place to start. If I lived out there and was able to commute to Neenah everyday for my shift thats where I would goLast edited: Dec 7, 2015
