Snowwy, I get you do not like the RM for not routing you on a Non-STAA US route when your settings were set for STAA...
Just because the RM has a support thread here should be viewed as a PLUS, not a negative which you hold against RM.. I can Google any other GPS and I find lots of threads and posts on the internet and most of them are not on a happy note.
I felt 7 years ago that drivers on a Trucking Website should have a way to contact and get answers to their issues besides normal business hours. If you feel my being here on this website is such a negative then let me know.. I know of no other support for any other GPS on TTR that has been helping other drivers for 7 years +.

Although I have not yet made the jump to RM from CoPilot/Truckers Path Pro, I for one DO THINK that having a direct connection to official support on a truckers forum is a POSITIVE... and a BIG PLUS for both the users and RM...
That is one reason I am considering the move to RM... Although I do wish they would release their program into the iOS environment as I really don't want yet another tech toy in my truck and a standalone unitasker at that.
To @all, I have no connection to RM and not even a customer, but @Mark Kling keep up the good work in support of both your product, and more importantly, your customers here on TTR. I see it as a Win/Win for All.

Yes, I was using CoPilot at the time.Mark Kling Thanks this.

I have the RM 730 and there are things I really like about it and things I don't like about it. No gps is perfect so you have to "babysit" them to some degree. My 730 makes stupid choices all the time and I do mean stupid. Like so dumb you want to chuck it out the window. But most of the time it does well and I really like the interface and how easy it is to find POI's along my route. As for the stupid things it does route wise, it is fairly easy to manually set via's to make corrections or to create your own route. I would advise always checking the entire route it picks and watch for any time it does a recalculation along the way. I've done something as simple as pull off into a rest area only to have it recalculate the remainder of the route and try to send me a way I didn't wish to go. It also has a lot of trouble picking routes in big cities. I always figure my route when going into cities and set vias so it will guide me where I chose to go not where it would have sent me. Unfortunately it is impossible for any GPS to think like a human so all of them will make mistakes and have to be watched closely. But as far as being trucking specific and having lots of information regarding trucking routes and places to stop related to trucking I feel that RM has done a good job overall.

This is from another thread I answered in regards to routing..
A lot of factors go into "picking" a route. You see a road, the Maps are build into segments with each segment having a DB of parameters for the segment. Roads also have a setting that might give it a higher priority that a similar road. This goes for each side of a road. I have a road that is "weighted" as a class 0 road by HERE. It is a road, but the class is wrong. It should be a class 1 at least. Class 0 - you will never get routed on it. Giving the data to HERE it may take 1-2 years for them to update the Map DB since they have to do research on it.MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this. -
Thanks for the explanation behind the curtain.
HERE, is that the Nokia Mapping Program/DB?
I think I have heard of it before... So HERE is the base data layer that RM works on top of? Do other GPS companies use HERE also or are there different DB providers out there?
Guess I kind of assumed, yes I know what happens when one assumes, that RM had their own DB from the years of mapping/atlas production.
Again, thanks for a glimpse behind the curtain. -
RM uses HERE/NavTeq/Nokia along with a few others. Some use TeleAtlas.
The Atlas DB is not interchangeable with the map data for the TND's.
I know drivers see a road and see other trucks on it, but so many hidden factors go into trying to find a truck legal route. For a car it is easy, no restrictions unless the road is weighted "0".
Many restrictions are not posted which leads to more confusion to drivers.
Easiest way I test - Change to car mode- if routed, then truck restriction. If not routed then map issue.
If truck restriction, change to 48'/96" trailer, if routed then it is an Non-STAA road.
