i have had a recruiter call me back quite a few times in the last few weeks, then put me thru to the finance dept an they have returned my calls, if they aren't still leasing on drivers they haven't said a word to me, but i haven't gone thru the whole process yet whatever that might entail, also i may have held up the process as I'm still not sure if its something i want to do so i haven't been in a hurry to get what they need from me, but they have returned my calls.

As far as Mercer pulling ups freight. its a normal thing that some companies do around Christmas, when their own freight gets slow because of the large volume of extra freight ups needs to move. As far as ups pulling other companies trailers, they will relocate your trailer for free. They load it with their freight, going to the destination of your choice and then put it on the rail road. As long as the inspection and tags are good and it passes their mechanics inspection. Once its unloaded at their hub in the city you chose, they will call you and you can pick it up.

hmm .. well this is what it looks like

I'd guess if Schneider didn't send a company truck for it, if an IC didn't pick it that odds are it's crap freight.

This is true..
However a lot of carriers will lease to anybody and don't care if the drivers fail or has to sit.
Some even lease trucks to noobs out of School, think Transam is one of them off the top of my head.
