Why do truck drivers feel a compulsive need to purchase CB radios and take them to someone to modify them and waste their hard earned dollars to show a perceived increase in wattage but a huge decrease in performance?

Because America! If done rigbt there is no decrease in performance it makes it alot better. Mine goes from my big truck to my mud truck. Its very helpful to be able to talk farther when you're stuck and have no cell signal

The only problem is even if you double your power Output on the fundamental frequency the receiving station won't even notice. So why spend all this money for something that no one will ever notice?
If I can hear a stock $69 cobra 29 @ 30 miles away why would somebody want to spend money to increase the output power of the radio only to decrease the range and caused him to disappear out of my receiver at a distance of 8 miles?

Blaskowitz, darthanubis, Big_m and 2 others Thank this.

Even if someone was to upgrade from a Cobra 19 to an Anytone AT- 6666 which peaks around 80 watts it would only show a 3db increase in my receiver. It just seems like wasting a lot of money and losing a lot of ground all at the same time

    darthanubis Thanks this.
