    Only guys with Nothing left in their pockets,Nothing in the Bank, no insurance,And a truck barely hanging on might use Western Express for a second chance at life

    A "broke o/O" going to WE will soon be a "broker O/O" if that is even possible. Why would you even ASK????

    I read a post where a guy said he was leased onto them and they treated him well. I am aware of their overall reputation. They might treat o/os differently.

    That's why I asked for input from someone that actually runs for them, or ran for them.

    Well the question I have is why would you lease to a company with their own trucks??? A mom and pop company could be 50/50 but a mega is financial suicide.

    Not too long ago I shared this perception with you. I did well at "mom and pop" (or more accurately slobovian) companies UNTIL the rates crashed. Now mom nor pop can pay more than they can get.

    I have found it necessary to (formally) update the way I think and perceive, very often...

    And so it becomes a question of what they can get. Bigger places can bypass brokers. And so MAYBE they are willing/able to pay enough to get my wheels to turn.

    My truck is parked. I do not live hand to mouth. Thank you, God. I have a home and I can survive without running. I feel so very sorry for you, my brothers, who literally must eat the #### they offer, 'cause the other choice is to lose the truck and become homeless. They say Lincoln abolished slavery. What a crock!

    Be all that as it may, you can't keep doing it. Simple arithmetic says if you run for $1.10 a mile, well, fuel alone is 50 cents... You are kidding yourselves, while making driver wages - maybe.

    I don't have an answer. Do you? If so, please share it with us?

    @Broke oo

    I have an answer; more accurately an observation. IF all you say is true and you are doing fine and dandy then you would not even be entertaining THOUGHTS of Western Express. FACT.

    What's W/E pay scale? They may pay percentage which would give you a fighting chance but what kinda rates are they getting and who's dispatching? More than likely them. If they pay mileage then it's no need for me and you to discuss this matter. Have you talked with them to see what they offer O/O? Also I'm not sure about the mom and pop you're leased to but my all miles since I got ghe truck in April is well above $1.10 and I'm a greenhorn O/O. I've been researching quietly since 2012 about going this route and I can tell you that unless you're trolling you've got a lot to learn. But because I don't wanna see anybody fail there's several all O/O companies that should help you weather this economic storm we're having. Mercer, Landstar, TSH, and Admiral merchants just to name a few. Good luck and we're all here to help...... Well most of us

    Who is running for 1.10 a mile?

    Lowest I'll drop is 1.80 mile. Otherwise I wouldn't even look at this industry as a whole. (Reefer)

    And come on fuel isn't at .50cpm. I can run 1200 miles at about $250 bucks. So even if I took 1.10 which would be $1320 . Let's do 3 of those loads a week. That's $750 in fuel, and $3,960 in gross. Horrible yes, but what does mom and pops charge you 10%? That's $396 and fuel at $750 is $1146, is your truck paid off? Trailer? Insurance? If it is and your insurance is low a guy can make $2500 avg a week at 1.10 a mile. That's 1.10 a mile!!!! Do the math in this crappy market that even at 1.80 a mile you'll be ok to put money in your pocket and take care of a truck. It sure isn't the nice 4-5 per mile rates but you can still survive in the current markets.

    And I think leasing to megas you're going to get .80 cents to 1.06 cents per mile anyway, and expect low miles which increase your cost.
