I'd like to try them but my driver who has drove for close to 30 years ( myself over 20) says there is no way he will pull double trailers that fed ex has as they are the scariest thing there is in winter driving.

When I see a comment like that it makes me wonder about the sort of person who would say it. Honestly I would expect as much from an 8 year old girl. Winter time and/or doubles are not a big deal. Use that head for something besides a hat rack. All you have to do is slow down in bad weather and watch wtf you are doing.

I always found it a lot easier running nights in the winter hauling gas up in northern NY and VT. Even if the roads weren't plowed, much easier with no traffic. Longer run but never bothered me much, except for when you get stuck behind the plows 3 wide on the interstate.

I know around this neck of the woods if you want to become a feeder driver your an on call part timer for probably 10 years or so before you get on a full time run. Is it the same everywhere?

I know a couple ppl in indianapolis who have about 1.5 years in.

They are on the "on call list", bust most of the year they cover vacations and extra runs.

For the past few years it's been been very busy there. Most big hubs are like that from what I've heard.

Smaller centers are very hard to get into regardless
