    I'm so tired of reading all the crap advice on being an owner - op that I decided to post.

    My story:

    I went to Hamrick in Medina, Ohio. Went to work hauling steel regionally and got home every single weekend. Did that for one year and went to work for Con-way Freight in Akron, Ohio for 8 months.

    Bought a $6500 single axle day cab and leased on with Towne Air Freight pulling their trailers and running a local route for about a year and a half. I grossed around $2200 per week and was home every day - no weekends or holidays.

    Obtained my own authority, bought a $3000 53' dry van, and signed up with truckstop.com to find loads. First week I grossed $900 and it went up steadily until now, where I gross $2600-$3100 per week. $350 per week in fuel, $625 per month insurance, and about $125 per week for maintenance and repairs.

    I stay within 100 miles of where I live so no logs. I avg. 2 loads per day and I'm home by 3 or 4pm most days. No weekends or holidays ever.

    I never understand why drivers work so hard with so little pay.

    And I can't stand reading advice claiming you can't make money or earn a good living in trucking unless you drive your tail off and don't spend any money.

    If someone tells you that you can't do it - tell them that they can't because they don't think they can - but you can.

    You live in the right area to do that. Good for you, some others though it would be over 100 miles to the closest freight. So what works for you may not work for all. I agree with you on one thing you should not have to work your fool head off to make money with a rig. Most weeks my guys only run 1800 miles and make good revenue for doing so. Nice to hear some positive instead of negative.

    Good for you man i just did the same thing 3 months ago and have made between $13000-$20000 a month so like you said dont let anyone tell you that it cant be done

    Have a buddy/ex-coworker that did the same thing. Went out and bought him a $16k truck and started trucking. Makes good money and home every day.

    Location, location, location.

    Many guys are not in a good freight area like that. Or in an area that will pay enough.

    So we do what we do in order to make the money we want.

    I have no intention of moving away from Fla. So I go out and stay out until I have the money I set out to make.

    Dont get me wrong. I am not knocking you at all. I wish I could be home every day and have more time to devote to my hobbies and family. I have not found a way to make that happen.

    Yup us Florida guys don't have it so lucky down here. I wish that would change but it's so easy for guys to get $5000 trucks and run for 1.05 per mile that you can't even compete. Keep up the good work up there
