so there is a new rail cargo facility in WV, they talk about big DCS like home depot, etc, building dist centers along the rails to cut down on cost, can anyone give me a ray of hope, because it seems like eventually the only jobs in trucking will be intermodal and dist center to store deliveries, if an intermodal driver picks up from shipper an takes to rail, then the rail goes to the front door of the dist centers lined along the rails which is cheaper in the long run for big shippers, then a local driver delivers to the store, then you eliminate the middle man(the otr trucker). i would like to be wrong but it seems to me the future of trucking is bleak at best, just looking for any opinions of why maybe this won't happen, i just like to plan ahead for things but from my research this is the only conclusion i come to. Merry Christmas to all and please post any good reasons why you don't see this happening because honestly its depressing, also you could talk about smaller shippers but it seems to me they will all be crushed by the big man, i may not believe that would happen but most people i know want thing for cheap and don't care how they get it as long as its cheap.

and to add to my post i guess i think about the blacksmiths and the horse and carriage before Henry Ford came along. it just seems inevitable. we are a country consumed with doing things better, cheaper and faster, while someone profits, someone will most likely suffer if not prepared.

Happens all the time. Just like your example, how many of those Henry Ford assembly line workers have been replaced with robotics? I personally don't see it happening anytime soon but it could.

Rail , while it has its major place in goods transfer , simply cannot do what trucks can do or go where we can go. With what you have described above there will still need to be OTR/regional for these kinds of deliveries. Also that is only one segment of trucking.
I'd be more concerned with driverless or autonomous trucks. Driver may need to be in the seat regardless, but you could feasably pay less for them.againstthewind Thanks this. -
Would have sent video to his company if I had it cause this cat was absolutely insane.
Trying to find a camera system that will work the way I want it to and be able to mount on the mirrors. Its unfortunate too that SNI takes the word of some random caller over ours, at least mine anyways.
