I am looking to put together a small toolset to keep in my sleeper compartment.

    I was thinking
    1/4"-1" combination wrenches
    3/8" socket set 1/4"-1"
    Assortment of screw drivers
    Allen wrench set
    Hammer
    Pliers
    Vise grips
    Crescent wrench
    Electrical tape
    Zip ties
    Air line unions

Does this seem like a good start or anything else I should add?

Don't forget duct tape , bulbs , and fuses. Not exactly all "tools" , but they are emergency essentials.

What kind of truck and engine? A lot of things are metric even on American trucks.

I'd also get some hose clamps, spare hose sections, 1 4x4" piece of rubber, and fuse pliers, wire strippers and connectors. And if you can parts to cage an air brake. Not all brakes have the key and washers

I imagine whatever socket set I buy will likely include metrics as well. I was planning on buying one of those $100 socket set kits from Home Depot or lowes and then a combo wrench set which probably will have metrics also.

Ok, I don't know about petes. But you are best getting metric and standard like you plan, your orginal post just mentioned the standard.

The most useful tool I had when OTR was a fifth wheel puller. More versatile than a Swiss Army knife.
