The one place I worked, the annual physical was performed at several urgent cares OR a few lucky ones got to go to a full blown hospital and take it. Guess where I got to go? Toward the end you do sit ups, leg lifts, drag 200 pounds up and down the haul way three times, then 8 deep knee bends, then nurse has you sit, hold your arm in a specific position and takes your blood pressure. I passed by 2 points. Told them this was F/U as everyones BP is going to be elevated after all that. At the urgent cares, the first thing they do is take your BP. When the doctor comes in to grab your cajones, and talk to you, he says they are looking to fail people, and weed out the unfit drivers. It was unreal. That company had guys dropping like flies to the sleep apnia BS, and BMI BS also.
The place I went to last month was pretty standard cattle walk.

Rolling a drum is a serious accident waiting to happen. If the shipper wants a drum someplace, they can darn well provide a drum hand cart or other appropriate handling equipment. 300+ pounds on a ramp will turn ugly really quickly if your foot slips.

Well. Here it comes I guess? It must be the insurance companies. Same as with the drive cams. We have sort of the same thing going on. Balance on a ball? Draw blood. Take your blood pressure. Run on a treadmill. Take your blood pressure again and if it does not fall back within a certain pressure in so many minutes you are out of a job. Worst RUMOR I heard was the insurance company calls up the DOT and reports you as medically unfit to drive. I call BS on that one.

Only thing I could see with that, would be if it got away from you and you dropped it. But I sure as hell wouldn't try to pick it up by myself. Unless it was a 55 gallon drum full of feathers. . .

When I first got into trucking, there was a food outfit in Salt Lake, (I really don't remember now if it was Sysco or one of the other ones,) that demanded a pre employment physical agility. And I DID NOT pass that because it got my blood pressure up to much. . .(And I was just a young squirt of 50 at the time... )

The physical agility test I went through my carrier consisted of basically consisted of stretching, lifting a lumber tarp up and placing it on a shelf three times, and lifting a crate of chains and placing them on a shelf three times. Pulse was taken after each test.

Basically the same stuff I do many days at work, actually....

They're not that hard to pick up once they're layed over, it's just not something I'd want to do every day and it seems like it would be an unnecessary risk to do so.

Maybe the trucking company's are going to provide fitness club memberships as a perk if enough drivers fail.

I think people should be in shape to drive but not sure if a 55 gal drum is a correct test. Why not open and close the hood without banging it, caring a backpack with clean clothes and shower gear 1/4 mile than up a flight of stairs than back out. Lowereing the landing legs all the way to the ground and than on turn, pulling the fifth wheel and walking around the truck and climbing on the catwalk to disconnect the air lines and iv cable than climb into or onto a trailer and do this all in a certain amount of time.

What trucking company was it that put you through this incredible physical? What type of freight was the company hauling that would require a driver to be this physically fit? Also, was this a flatbed trucking company?

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Companies that have their own type test I bet can't find the drivers either.how many of you can lift 180 lbs?I failed that by the way along with four other excercises. They can't find the drivers and I bet this test has mostly to do with it..what ever happened to the standard DOT physical?
