    Voice recorder concerns me because I will be teaming with a friend. It would be like having your employer bug your home with microphones. No thank you! Driver facing cameras and or microphones will be a deal breaker for us when we do go on the road.

    It's kinda creepy if you would happen to talk on the phone or to yourself.
    Some of the stuff I discuss with me, I don't want anyone to hear it.
    Sometimes if it's real personal, when I get passed I quit talking until they're away from me.

    Airline pilots have voice recorders, right ? As far as someone listening to your "day to day" conversation, I guess you better not talk while eating in a restaurant or flying in an airplane. Oh, yeah......and don't talk on your cell in public either ! ! ! ! !

    Not the same thing at all. Yes, the truck cab is a work place but it's also your home. An airplane is not a pilots home. And waiting in restaurants/flying in planes are public places. Same with talking on cell phones in PUBLIC places. The question becomes (especially for team drivers who would be having regular, possibly personal - especially husband/wife teams - conversations,) where is the line between public and private. Seeing as drivers LIVE in their trucks 24/7, that is their home and therefore private. I'm really amazed (and alarmed,) that anyone would not get this basic distinction and would actually DEFEND such an invasion of privacy. Are you really suggesting that the only place two team members should expect to be able to communicate on private subjects is the small space behind the curtain? Not being able to speak freely while going down the road would make long days even more stressful (having to censor yourself,) draining and monotonous than they have to be. This does not sound like a safety improvement in the long run.

    I'm not defending it, just trying to show management's mindset. I wouldn't (and I'm sure management doesn't either) classify the driver's seat as "your home". The truck is, first, a workplace, then, secondly, a place to rest and sleep when off duty. Your first obligation is to drive the truck from A-B. When driving, it's a "workplace". When resting, it's a place to "rest", an alternative to a motel. It has no restroom facilities or a shower, at best, maybe a microwave and fridge. This is 21st century. Camera's everywhere. Stores, restaurants, banks even truckstops ! Also let me say, there is no truck co. that's going to hire a person to listen to it's drivers small talk all day long. Even casinos in Vegas where there's cameras everywhere, only have one guy monitoring a wall of screens at one time.

    While I understand what you're saying... the question really is... does all of that still make it right? Kinda like the old saying, just because so and so is doing it, does it make it right? We are so accustomed to simply allowing each of these small steps of invasion against our personal rights, that we take it with a grain of salt. And that my friend IS the problem. And that attitude must change or we will all end up being "sheeple" and "serfs" of an entity beyond repair!!

    I'd never drive with either. The voice recorder would be worse than the camera imo.
