For NYC 6K isn't that bad. I'm sure Chinatown can help you out as far as where to look.

 

Western Express might hire you and they have their own CDL school.

 

I'm going to be starting at Western Express's CDL school on the 6th and I'll likely do a thread on it so if you want to you can wait and see how my experience is.

 

LTL companies aren't that hard to get on with if you have a clean MVR.
Old Dominion is one of the best and they hire new cdl grads; even had recruiters at cdl schools in PA looking for drivers.

 

@nyco Personal record, how you act at the interview, amount of gigs in your area, all affect a non experianced driver getting a local job. Not imposible, knock on lots of doors and think beyond the normal companys.

 

Best way I've heard to get on with a LTL Co is to get your CDL and work the docks. Let the terminal manager know you have a CDL and after a while he may throw you a bone.

 

You'll make up the $6k in no time with a ltl outfit. Even on the dock and not driving

 

Con-way also has LTL division and hires new cdl grads.
