If those rates were for vans, they're still low. For flats, extremely low. I live in the Birmingham market, and the folks I deal with, the rates are considerably better. I pulled vans and reefers out of this market and the company I was leased to had rates that were well over $2, for the most part.

Just did a rough look at the year 2015 revenue down 30% but cost are probably down the same or maybe more.
Looks like I'll have to learn to live on less if rates don't rise.
The bad part is spending hours searching for a load.

Our gross was off $15,000 from last year, but our net was much closer do to the lower fuel cost.
Check out my 2014 vs 2015 post.

There used to be lots more load available and they paid lots better. Loads within my range run about 25% of whats posted. It's lots less now. But US steel shutdown their Q bop here and some of the other specialty stuff I haul is no longer in demand. The money offered is no where in correlation to the drop in fuel prices.
Plan fact is there's less capacity so turd gobbling shippers and brokers are milking it for what it's worth.
When the market flips I sure hope they all remember why they're getting rates Long, Hard and Deep.

I don't think the market will flip in such a dramatic fashion... It's too easy to get in the O/O side of the business. Especially for the foreigners aka eastern euros, dot indians, mid easterns and south of the borders... A very low threshold to get in under the illusions of riches beyond their wildest dreams

dude I didn't say it was easy. I said it was no more difficult to get into than the trucking side. the burden of entry into the industry on both the brokerage side and the trucking side is very minimal. Just requires filing a few forms and getting insurance.

I'm not one of those guys that think brokers are raking cash in hand over fist while doing nothing but answering they phone.

There is a facebook group called Freight Brokers. You would be amazed at how many think its so easy to broker freight. Then they get butthurt if they are asked if they have any industry or basic sales experience.
