to add on to don't spend the money you make, I would add onto that to look for ways you can invest your money so you make start making money just for having money on top of the money youll get truck driving.

being an OO/company trainer can make you pretty good money as well.

i have a 1 1/2 experience and by the end of my 2nd year if all goes as planned insha'allah i should gross 60k. High paying sectors in trucking are hazmat tanker (get all your endorsements), oversized and overwieght hauling, car hauling, and all sectors have good companies that pay well but this is just to give you an idea.

When you get your own truck remember people like a certain broker that has posted on here.. These guys prey on new people in the business to make a living. Mainly because those who have been around the block once or twice won't put up with the arrogance and condescending attitude they have.

You want good information read double yellows thread on becoming an owner operator. Very good insite into what he put into it. And one thing that I took notice of in that thread. I believe that the people that gave him the most support and sage advice are the more successful one's on the board. And I believe the reason is they genuinely want people to succeedand that makes them better. Stiff competition can make any one better or worse that is your choice.

I will be active here during my journey. I'll be sure to check back with you once I get some experience under my belt. I screen captured the post and put it in my "Trucking Info" Folder in my computer so I should be able to find you once the time comes.

see if schneider tanker division hires out of your area. If they dont then for the most part you are going to need a year under your belt until a hazmat tanker company gives you a look. If you are interested in hauling cars (6 figure incomes can be had doing this) contact United Road and see if you are in their hiring area. They only want 6 months. That company is only good for about 60k but obviously you can get your experience there and then move on to greener pastures. Otherwise ask @Chinatown what he knows about the Atlanta area.

My advice is this - get your CDL FIRST and then make a plan. You may not even get passed through a training program or a written test so putting the cart before the horse is rather not a good idea.

If you want to be an O/O, learn how to run a business, then learn this business on someone else's dime.
