You can gross $700 a week at McDonald's or Wal-Mart?
Me thinks not...

Personally I hate post that say your not making what you should. People on here have no idea the situation that particular driver is in. Alot of people on this forum think they know it all and really dont know ####!

Not everybody is money motivated, not all of us are here to get rich. We all have different wants and needs. Find a Carrier that suits you and your doing good.
I make a decent living, $60k a year, GF makes $70k working from home. Together, we live quite well. I don't need to make $100k out here, so I indulge myself and run the lanes I want to run.
I prefer long haul OTR. Coast to Coast, that's what I like to do, that's what I do. I work for a small power only company and the truck is Leased to a Carrier. I am dispatched by them, in their Owner Operator Division, so I get the benefit of being being an O/O with out the hassle of having to do it. Kind of the best of both worlds in my mind. I run no touch freight and haul pretty much anything that fits in the trailer. If I am in an area where the carrier has no freight, they broker a load for me.
Adventure motivates me, not money. It's a bit unusual in this forum, but that's me. Find what makes you happy and chasing scheckels becomes less important and life becomes more enjoyable.JReding, 15RoadGlide, YoungGuns and 1 other person Thank this. -
Besides, a guy coming from NO income to 36k a year gross might feel like he hit the jackpot.
It's all a matter of perspective, preference and desire as KMac so aptly described.JReding, MidWest_MacDaddy and KMac Thank this. -
I can agree with that. Wish I could be like you but my wife is a stay at home mom and unfortunately I have to make atlest $1000 a week to maintain the lifestyle we chose to live.KMac Thanks this.

The beautiful thing about this industry, is most people can find what suits their needs.I just hope more people do a little self reflection and find what is most important to them and go for that rather than keeping up with the Joneses.
Good Luck with your career choices. Hope it all works out.TampaTony Thanks this. -
Actually it ruins the industry standard. If some drivers are content/willing to work for 30k and there are enough of them out there, than 30k becomes the standard.
I personally only need 1,000 a month to live on, am I going to my employer and saying hey I'll do the same work for only 12k a year? Then the guys comfortable making 30k will complain.
Why work for less when you can make more is my argument. Making more doesn't mean being a slave either, clearly some people don't get the concept of work smarter not harderhunted Thanks this.
