For a student there isn't a better company. I just wouldn't plan on making a career there. As for me while I was there. First whole year was around 43ish or maybe more can't remember. 2nd year 51500 3rd year around 49500

I would be fine with most anything north or 40 as I realize I am new to the industry and have zero experience and need to pay my dues for a year. After that though I'm not sure I can deal with all the micromanagement that Smurf speaks of and a camera stuck in my face all the time. I liked CT mostly for the home time and the starting pay for new drivers. Maybe I will get lucky and get a good dispatcher.

It would be hard to beat CT for a starter company. And like you said you might get a good dispatcher. I personally know some drivers who get good miles. I'm just not one of them.

micromanagement will be present at any large company, period. Compared to what I've heard from Swift, Schneider, CR England, Prime, JB Hunt, Averitt, etc, Cargo isn't bad. But it is still present.

Though I noticed certain aspects of it while I was working with them, it wasn't until after I left Cargo that I noticed just how much they do micromanage drivers.
We could play devils advocate and say that they have every right to do so, after all it is their equipment, their loads. But whats the point of constantly patting a driver on the back (at least in the publics eye) calling them "professional", and touting that you employee the "best of the best" if you want to dictate every single movement the truck makes and when it makes it?smurf-316 Thanks this. -
The micro management is annoying as hell.
"Thanks for all you do" ''Your the professional" But just in case, We're still gonna watch you on the camera and hold your hand. Then call you a few times per month to chew your ### out about following too close in congested traffic, Idle time and not wearing your seat belt in the shippers parking lot. -
I have not experienced this micromanagement you all speak of. I have been left alone. They have shown a great deal of trust in me. I don't consider myself a veteran driver. Not even 2 years solo yet. Lucky I guess.

Cameras, lane guidance, on guard, the thing that beeps when a car is in your "blind spot" are all forms of micromanagement.
Telling you to take a 10 hour break to pick up a load that night right after you just started your clock to drive 3 miles to go to a consignee to get empty is another form. And very unsafe at that.
Telling you that you should have parked at a construction site in the middle of the hood in Jackson TN to avoid being late on a certainteed delivery instead of parking at a truck stop.
Telling me I can't drop my trailer and bobtail some where to eat or use the restroom when parking overnight at a customer.
Telling me not to call a customer to tell them I'm late (because cargo scheduled two deliveries at the same time same day but 300 miles apart).
Making you sit some where for 24+ hours after getting empty then sending you a load assignment to pick up 300 miles away but you have 4 hours to get there before they close.

Writing drivers up for parking on Entrance ramps when it is legal to do so. Not taking into consideration the driver had to drive until 11pm to arrive on time the next morning. All truck stops and Rest areas are full.
Leaving a driver setting all day waiting for a load. Then dispatch him on a load at 4pm that delivers the next morning forcing him to drive all night.
