I feel the exact same way. I grew up talking on the CB with my dad. He had a few laying around the house from when he was a truck driver. Sadly, you can rarely listen to good flow of conversation without it being a bunch of foul mouth trash talking. For that reason I have about gone strictly to lower sideband on channel 38. Most people who talk on sideband still have some respect for others and keep it clean. I have 3 kids and they all like to get on there and talk.

Not trying to change the subject but since you mentioned it being hard to just have conversation on 19, it got me thinking... It seems like it's either multiple people talking all the time on that channel or there is literally skip going non-stop during the day on that channel and that is why it is so noisy because once the sun goes down, it gets real quiet unless a local starts talking.

True, that is one of the busiest channels for skip since so many people are on it around the world. But I really enjoy talking to people around the world. Canada, Bahamas, Mexico! I even briefly made contact with a guy from Australia. That was amazing. But a bunch of guys around middle TN all get together and talk on 37 and 38 lower sideband. It's the closest thing to ham radio without the license. I was able to hold a 20 minute conversation with a few guys from TX, I'm in TN. They were on 37 upper sideband. I thought it was our local guys because one of them went by a name that one of our regular guys here goes by. So I switched over and had a good time that day. I plan on getting my ham license as well, but I won't give up on the CB. It's tradition.

I've had my ham license since 2010 and don't get me wrong, I love it. However, I still like to have access to the cb channels as well. I drove an hour last night and had my yaesu 857 turned on but I was monitoring channel 19. I love all of the radio hobby. If I didn't already have my yaesu in my truck, I'd probably put a cb back in there just because...
