I was just wondering if anyone had any information on state or national (or otherwise) grants offered to truck driver trainees for use in paying for school. A lady at SAGE told me it's out there, but I haven't been able to find any information on it. I'm planning on calling them tomorrow, but I thought why not get some input from the internet as well.

Try your Local Unemployment office in your area. Sometimes they will offer (free) training to Trucking Schools. Some only ask you do drive for a company for a year. Thus fulfilling your obligation to the unemployment office. Sometime the unemployment office will train you if this is a job that is in high demand and you have never been employed in this field before.

Make the call, ask question and get the information you desire; infact they might if give you some directions that you are looking for.

Good Luck in your quest. :biggrin_25517:

Check with the Unemployment office in your area and see if they have any current opening or any type of training available in the trucking industry.
If available the training might be free.
It doesn't hurt to make the call and ask questions.
The other way to get training is to get training from a carrier (truck company) that offers training the down side to this one is you have to sign on with that company for so many months until the amount is paid in full then you can go to a different company. Of course there is always a down side, in this case if you get fired or quit you will still need to reimburse the company for the entire amount left on the loan.
I would suggest that you check and cover ALL your options before committing your self on the dotted line.

    Good Luck

i got 4 grand from the department of labor for training and only needed to pay back the school 750 outa my pocket. just go to your local employment commission. if at your local job you make to much money to qualify for a grant then just save up enough to live off of for a few months and relax while u go to school, thats what i did but thats kind of risky. the place was called opportunity inc. and im not sure if there is one in every state

    good luck!

I am getting 3500 through un-employment towards training. I will have some out of pocket expense but I'll take what I can get. I believe most states use carreerlink to acquire jobs. That site might help you as well.
