Done it a number of times. If your mechanically inclined and pretty experienced on working on trucks than you will know what to look for. If your unsure what to look at and for than you will certainly be entering into crapshoot.

Buy cheap so you have money for repairs.
Good luck. -
I just got my first truck about a month ago, the way i did it i got a friend who is a truck mechanic paid him the day we looked at a few trucks that i had marked down and he suggested me the one he thought was the best, totally worth it, if i had to do any repair to my truck it would have costed me way more.
Good luck. -

The biggest mistake I see people make at public auctions is people who think they are getting a deal since they are at an auction and end up paying fair market value for an unknown vehicle. Sometimes the history can be obtained on trucks that are being sold as surplus for a specific company but the ones that you will get a better deal on are usually at asset recovery auctions. They are a bit riskier as far as condition and require a little bit of luck though. It's gotten a bit harder since most auctioneers use an online format now and run the auctions for a week or 2 where everyone has time to bid the price up versus when it was a 1 or 2 day live auction and you actually had to show up.
